I don't want to debate this point bec. I get your comments & respect them. My very subjective feeling is legends are made by great players who produce remarkable winners, throw their best strikeout pitches, hit service aces, etc., when the pressure on them is greatest, the game is on the line. I doubt that's measurable by statistics; it comes from somewhere else. The Gophers needed such a performer at that point. I guess they have none. Meyers has the service power, but is susceptible to nerves. Samedy, yes, but likely not on serve. I have been tracking crude "clutch" statistics from the play-by-play for the Gophers and several other teams this season. I keep track of points where the Gophers are behind or tied; points where the Gophers are at 20+ or 10+ for set 5; and points where the opponent is at 20+/10+. It does kind of point to the Gophers being more error-prone at the end of matches. Also Miyabe kind of stands out for points where the opponent is in the twenties. Also interesting to note, the Gophers have had more kills (52.1%) while behind or tied, than ahead. For the Gophers at 20+ (or 10+ in set 5) Player K HE K/HE Samedy 86/34, 2.53 Wenaas 69/24, 2.88 Miyabe 57/21, 2.71 Landfair 17/6, 2.83 Myers 15/7, 2.14 Husemann 9/2, 4.5 Rubright 7/2, 3.50 Shaffmaster 6/2, 3.00 Glenn 2/1, 2.00 Overall team rate is 270/99 2.73 Gophers opponent 20+ (or 10+ in set 5) Samedy 68/28, 2.43 Miyabe 45/10, 4.50 Wenaas 38/18, 2.11 Landfair 17/2, 8.50 Shaffmaster 5/3 1.67 Myers 5/4 1.25 Husemann 3/1 3.00 Rubright 2/1 2.00 Glenn 1/4 0.25 Overall 184/71, 2.59 Gophers behind/tied Samedy 290/86, 3.37 Wenaas 169/73, 2.32 Miyabe 146/40, 3.65 Myers 57/18, 3.17 Landfair 38/8, 4.75 Shaffmaster 35/14, 2.50 Husemann 19/14, 1.36 Rubright 13/4, 3.25 Glenn 6/4, 1.50 Overall 773/261, 2.96 Season overall for all points 1483/512, 2.90 this is great, thanks for putting that together

Can hitting errors be subdivided: attacks blocked vs attacks that went out of bounds? Do you also have 'clutch time' hitting %s? How many attacks were neither kills, nor HEs? I'd like to understand your analysis better
It's quite a body of time intensive work..thks

UW season ticket holders received an email that shows which sections are designated for "seed #2, #3, #4". So If Minnesota is "seed #3", then per that email the MN "friends and family" section is the first 18 rows of section S. The section is 19 seats wide, so 18x19 = 342 tickets, etc. (Seed 4 is the same thing but the other side of center court, section Q.) No truth to the rumor that it is section S for "Samedy". UW Athletic Department goes the extra mile Maybe it's a Wisconsin thing. Marquette did the same when I bought tickets for the BEast tourney.

Minnesota used to do it, back when Ron Lynch handled things. But that was before they could do it easily and electronically… when paper, USmail, and faxes roamed the Earth. Now that it’s simpler, it’s completely impossible (unless it’s a football bowl game).

No, I pull it manually from play by play information so it is only scoring points. There is probably some use error and occasional missing points in those, but at least not complete missing matches like some teams had early on. Here are serving stats broken out. I looked at how many times each player served last weekend as I re watched the games. (SD and Stanford) Also how many points we scored on each players serve.
K Myers 14 serves 14 points 3 SE Shaffmaster 14 serves 12 points 1 SE Miyabe 13 serves 19 points 5 SE Kilkelly 12 serves 8 points 0 SE Samedy 12 serves 4 points 1 SE Wenaas 12 serves 6 points 1 SE

How did we score 19 points off Airi’s 13 serves (before noting that 5 of them were SE’s)?

Great data but confusing until you realize the first figure is the number of times someone rotates into the serving position Miyabe had great serving runs 5 serves each vs SD
reinforcing the feeling that her serving is the weakest part of Wenaas' game. She hits net and she carries long... too frequently radical idea: Wenaas has a good jump topspin attack from the 3 meter line. Serving with her feet on or barely off the floor is actually an alien part of her game. She should consider a more aggressive approach because she has wonderful muscle memory for the ball striking she does 20' up the court. Even so far as to release some distance behind the endline.
She can then hit a harder topspin at an angle that will carry above the net but dive into the court. or continue a float serve but start it at a higher angle further back from the service line with more pace

That’s the only way it makes sense to me

Sorry to confuse. Myers opened seven points on her first serve against South Dakota. She served one more time and didn't score. Miyabe had two runs of five one on Friday and one on Saturday. One of which ended on a SE. I think the stats that all American put up are more telling. I was surprised that a player only served twice during some sets. Hugh has subbed someone for Myers to serve late in the game. So he knows.

I was surprised that a player only served twice during some sets. Hugh has subbed someone for Myers to serve late in the game. So he knows. It depends on how back-and-forth the set is. If two teams are trading sideouts "rapidly", that's more times rotating and then more times each gets to the service line. On the other hand, if teams trade five point scoring runs, eg., that's less frequent rotations and fewer trips to the service line for each player. And that in turn can bring the limit on the number of subs into play. If a team subs a lot - Wisconsin, and this year Nebraska - trading sideouts and frequent rotating means you get to the 15 sub limit faster, and that can end up with players playing in situations they're not usually in. Minnesota generally, and now particularly with no McGraw meaning no subbing in Kilkelly, that isn't a problem.

There's a potential CC sighting on Katie Myers instagram at team practice in Madison. Anyone else happen to see it? I feel like it shouldn't be that difficult to find out if she traveled with the team.

I still doubt she’d be cleared before tomorrow, but even if she isn’t, I hope she gets to suit up and be with the team.

It was a little sad not to see her at the PAV, even if she couldn't play.

If it were a Covid thing, she wouldn't be allowed around her teammates if she were still in a quarantine period.
