If I'm Hugh, I'm trying to convince Mari Hinkle to come home and add some depth at DS. That would be illegal. It wouldn't, because she is in the portal.

It wouldn't, because she is in the portal. Was she not getting time on the court at UCLA? I thought she was a very good HS and Club Libero.

How about accountability? More specifically, coaches accountability? Seems a taboo topic among VTers. Every job I can think of, when results don't come (9 years), after blaming the troops, it is the top that gets the sack. Gophers defense and passing got above their fair share of criticism already. Fire Hugh McCutcheon? Lol. Good one.

I saw or read something somewhere about Brynn Carlson being in the portal. Could she be used?

Also, YES, we badly need a really good passing DS transfer to come in as well. Maybe another viable starting setter option, especially if Atherton doesn’t return.

There needs to be some serious changes. I would think it is quite obvious that our present passing/setter combination doesn't work like it should. But will Hugh make changes? In his mind he always has his 6 starters at the beginning of every season and very seldom does he ever waiver on that "no matter" the outcome/struggles each of those players have in matches. The only exceptions are usually due to injuries. So...........does Minnesota continue playing "Hugh Ball" or do we see changes starting next season?
I would even go out on a limb to say, his decisions are probably why we have had SOME players choose to transfer out in recent years. One cannot blame players for wanting to play. My take especially on this season was disappointment and frustration but mostly the latter.
I agree with the person who posted on the loss of Appiani at the beginning of this season. I have no idea if Hugh attempted to replace her or not. Also, the loss of an experienced MB in Katie Myers. Sure you don't want players who want to play and aren't, but at the same time you cannot afford to have an EXTREMELY TALENTED TEAM lose starters due to injuries without capable players to step into their shoes if and when needed.

FFs and Sweet Sixteens only Nothing in between.

courtwatchers - I don't think you can fault Huge for not replacing Appiani. If I remember, she was here this fall and then the news came out between fall and January. Where are you going to find a transfer on such short notice? Also, do we know what happened with Katie Myers? Was she injured? I guess I don't know who you'd want in there off the bench? Who are you talking about transferring out in recent years? Jasmyn? She wouldn't of helped us with passing and maybe wouldn't have started over Landfair anyway. Barnes did play, and probably could have earned the Lib jersey eventually. I can't think of anyone else.

Barnes knew the writing was on the wall with the arrival of McGraw. I feel like it takes a special girl to play at Minn or any of the other schools with great programs. These girls are coming from places where they were the go to option and now they have to come to terms with less PT. If you don't buy into WE over ME, it can be a hard couple of years. The credo is that if you work hard in practice you'll be rewarded on the court, but what if everyone is working equally hard? There's one ball and too many talented players to go round.
