Not hard to find, with that word in the search. volleyballmag.com/mccutcheon-082919/Second of all, I think it would be interesting, in all volleyball, to eliminate overhand tip. Like beach, you have to roll it or you have to use a pokey, but you just don’t get to bail out with a tip over the top. I think you’ll have better rallies, it would force the athletes to make better decisions, but I don’t think the overhand tip helps the game very much.Just another reason for the referee to blow the whistle and influence the match. Bad idea. Wouldn't be a judgement call any more than being in the net? |

I do think some of the throws in this tournament have been pretty egregious. I'd at least like to see those called. People should not be allowed to catch the ball. |

Well, you did say open hand and he said "overhand". I do think some of the throws in this tournament have been pretty egregious. The one from Pitt (don't remember if it was in the 5th, at this point) was just pathetic. It was a basketball slam dunk. Lame as hell that it wasn't called. |

I want to see:
1) The pancake made illegal
2) Micro-touches ignored
OR, at the very least, the pancake called down unless the ref clearly sees that it was up. Touches ignored unless the refs clearly see a touch.

I wouldn't mind losing the overhand tip. I hate seeing these "power tips" that basically means balls are getting thrown to the floor.

One you cannot see with the naked eye. I see no point in rewarding luck. If you use bad replay cameras and you can't see one in 30 seconds, there was no touch. Too often, refs are assuming there was a touch. IMO. This is also the problem with pancakes. Too often it is all but impossible to see if NO part of the ball contacted the floor. I think the pancake is a lazy defensive move meant to fool the refs. I say if the hand is in contact with the floor, it's down. |
