Eggleston in particular seems totally unbothered when things go momentarily south. Like in a good way ooh very much agree. She has such a good on court persona. I love the way she kinda just laughs and smiles it off. Logan is cool and collected throughout the entirety of matches, which really helps to lead Texas. Her next play mentality and mental toughness is amazing and truly a fantastic leader. Hope she does well tmrw!

Results in games vs top 40 teams (using Massey power ratings) Texas Beat #5 Nebraska 3-1 Beat #15 Baylor 4x (3-2, 3-2, 3-1, 3-1) Beat #16 Penn State 3-1 Beat #31 Wright State 3-0 Lost to #39 Rice 2-3 Total Sets Won/Lost 23-11
Wisconsin Beat #4 Minnesota 3-1 Beat #6 Florida 3-2 Beat #9 Purdue 2x (3-0, 3-0) Beat #10 BYU 3-0 Beat #30 Ilinois (3-0, 3-1) Beat #36 Weber State 3-0 Total Sets Won/Lost 27-4
So yeah, over 2/3rds picking Texas seems like a textbook example of recency bias. If you look at the full body of work of these teams this season, Wisconsin should clearly be viewed as the favorite. Now the favorite doesn't always win and Texas is a live dog, but the results of this poll (over 2/3rd picking Texas) seem like they should be flipped.

How is Texas's mental toughness? Can they shake off mistakes and keep one error from becoming 2 or 3? Did any of that happen in their loss to Rice (honestly asking, I did not see that match)? I think the fourth and decisive set against Nebraska the other day is a good example of Texas shaking off mistakes. Got down 13-8 due to some tough Nebraska serving, and our own passing breakdowns. But, we re-focused after a timeout and went on our own run to re-gain a 15-14 lead that we never relinquished.
While that's just one example, it came at a crucial time in the match and the season.
I agree with you. They played right through some runs and rough spots.

I'll be interested to see if Texas can slow down Robinson. Both in the middle and on the left this will be the biggest block she's seen so far as far as I can tell. That could be a big key to the match imo. Slowdown as in hold her to hitting like .400? Because if the goal is loftier than that, good luck. Serving is how you slow her down.

For me personally it's the emergence of Fields that has made the difference for TX since tourney started. Skylar was not nearly this effective from the left all season. In fact, for as high as she jumps and who they were playing, she struggled. So many times my jaw dropped watching her swing against NE. She has emerged and I'm hoping she's just a flash in the pan, burned out before she plays WI.

Jokes aside, she'll need to bring this level to beat Wisky, no question in my eyes.

I just want Texas to play well. I won’t mind if they lose if they play well and Wisconsin’s just a better team.

I’m assuming Eggleston/Fields and Butler/O’Neal will be bigger than all of their 2nd team outsides/middles (sans maybe that one Canadian)

I'm not a Wisconsin expert, but looking at their roster:
6'9" FR Anna Smrek, MB (the Canadian) 6'7" R-SO Julia Wohlert, MB/OPP (from Indiana, played in one set this season) 6'3" R-FR Courtney Gorum, MB (from Virginia - listed height shorter than Butler, but equal to O'Neal and taller than Eggleston/Fields)
Nicole Shanahan (2 sets) and Jade Demps (11 sets/47 k), both OH, are listed as 6'2" as well. Wisconsin has a ton of tall players that haven't seen a ton of court time this season.

For me there's no doubt that Texas's back court has improved--it's arguably one of their strengths now. That said, there's no high pressure serving team in the country like Wisconsin, and I want to see how Texas's improved back court can handle the deadly floaters of Wisconsin.
Florida was the only team this season that didn't wilt (at least for the first half of the game) under Wisconsin's serves. And they almost took it.
If Texas's passing game can handle it, we know they have the offensive firepower to win.

I’m rooting for Wisconsin. If Washington doesn’t win it all, at least we’d get a new champion.... albeit in an asterisks year.
