So is Big 10 still the “arguable” best conference in the country? 🤔 Let me put it this way. Let Texas, Kentucky or anyone else schedule home and aways with Purdue, Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska in the same season for the next five years and see how well they do.

Didn't Nebraska duck out of the Big 12 because it couldn't beat Texas (in any sports)??

Texas should create their own conference They basically do have their own conference already. But while many other conferences have talked to Texas about having them join, all the major conferences share revenue, jointly manage TV rights, and would not accept Texas having their own LHN. Texas isn't interested in giving up the LHN.

Mmmmm, he didn't "import" O'Brien. When they kept saying that O'Brien transferred to Texas.....not exactly true. Elliot found her in grad school (had no idea she enrolled at Texas) and asked if she'd like to walk on. Ah my apologies then. That's a pretty cool story! No worries. These days, you expect transfers and under-the-table pre-portal recruitment of players. She has a health-related type major and chose Texas for grad school. I still find it mind blowing she didn't drop a DM onto the coaches and hint around to see if she could get a scholarship while going to grad school. Maybe a club coach of hers from the past reached out and told the Texas staff she was there? Unsure. Also, I don't get the feeling she leapt at the offer to play with Texas. Stories I read said she mulled it over for a while before agreeing.
The one thing is look at her shoes. They're an older model of neon yellow-green that the previous years team wore. The current team's shoes are grey. I'm purely guessing that since they found her so late, they hadn't ordered shoes for her and went into the extra shoe inventory and found a pair for her to play in.

She truly makes the backcourt very stable. She is very composed and confident. Her instinct is spot on.

Anyone else noticed how awesome black girls have performed in this tournament? And don't come at me cos this is a black girls appreciation post. They bring extra juice to every team that has had a deep run. Note to coaches, diversify your teams and reap the rewards. You have nothing to lose!

Overall thoughts from a volleyball newcomer who knows very little lol -Barnes looked good in the last set, but the passing was not good generally. I was surprised by how mediocre/bad her passing was. -I'm not sure if Hilley was injured or sick but she did not look good. A lot of sets were weird, not typical Hilley sets. It just didn't make sense. Near the end she was purposefully avoiding Rettke which didn't make sense, unless Rettke is injured or sick or something. -Robinson carried this Badger team. Wow. -I don't understand all the dislike of Gabriel. She looked terrific to me, but this is the 2nd match of hers that I've watched, so I don't have a sample size at all. -Texas middles. Holy. They are terrific. -Loberg and Haggerty did not look good. I'm sure COVID pauses and stuff hurt chemistry, but they just looked poor throughout the night.

Hilley tweaked her ankle in the third set with a play at the net. I haven't watched much Badger volleyball, so I don't know what her normal setting is like.
Texas setting is a valid, often ridiculed part of our game. They're too short or not very efficient or both. Gabriel is a walkon DS who beat out the 2 year starter. She had to ask Jerritt to give her a shot at setter.
Both O'Neal and Butler redshirted their first year. Phillips, playing RS for the first time this year, was the next in line of top middle recruits that Jerritt pulled in. But surprisingly, she didn't redshirt her freshman year (a typical Jerritt move). He may have promised her she didn't have to redshirt, who knows. And so, he moved her to RS in the Fall to give her playing time. But, she's a middle.

Molly Phillips didn't redshirt her freshman season in 2019 because of nagging injuries to Brionne Butler early in the season; redshirting wasn't an option as we had no other MB's on the roster. Molly HAD to play, and she did great.

Yeah I saw Hilley hurt her ankle, but I was talking more about set choices. Like she was setting Loberg and Haggerty when Robinson seemed to be hot and have a better matchup. I'm a new volleyball fan so I'm not super knowledgable but it seemed that Hilley was setting the wrong people at the wrong times. Gabriel looked good to me. That's very impressive that she beat a starter. What do you think of her overall?

Didn't Nebraska duck out of the Big 12 because it couldn't beat Texas (in any sports)?? Actually, Nebraska went from an easy conference to a much tougher one. Nebraska won 80 conference championships in various sports while in the Big 12. Top to bottom the Big Ten is a much tougher conference when it comes to competing in all NCAA sports. Nebraska volleyball was the only decent competition Texas volleyball had in the Big 12. Nebraska's record vs Texas while in the Big 12 (1996-2010) 22W - 7L Big 12 Conference Championships in 1996,1998,1999,2000,2001,2002,2004,2005,2006,2007,2008,2010

But while many other conferences have talked to Texas about having them join, all the major conferences share revenue, jointly manage TV rights, and would not accept Texas having their own LHN. Texas isn't interested in giving up the LHN.LHN was offered to Texas by ESPN to keep them from joining the PAC 10. It worked.
When the Big 12 conference was formed, the heavy-hitters (Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M) all led the charge for UNequal revenue sharing.
Prior to the SEC Network, the SEC did not have equal revenue sharing either. Florida sold its third-tier TV rights to the Sunshine Network; and Kentucky made big money selling its third-tier basketball TV rights.
While LHN projects to provide Texas a steady $15 million annually, that is going to be on the short end compared to what each member school in the SEC and B1G receive are in line to receive from the SEC Network and B1G Ten Network, respectively. This is the reason why Texas will join the SEC or B1G in the next round of conference realignment, IMO. Plus, ESPN is losing major money with their brainchild LHN concept.

Jhenna Gabriel has been harshly criticized on this message board over the last several seasons by many, particularly by a handful of Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Stanford fans. Some of the criticism has been warranted, but I didn't think the degree to which some put her down was accurate.
Even this season when she was named the Big 12 setter of the year, the same handful of posters were very disrespectful. She was very deserving of her 3rd Team All-American recognition. And, as Paul Sunderland mentioned a couple of times last night, she is the most improved setter in his opinion; and, he would know as he has called many matches the last couple of season while Jhenna was setting, but only a couple this season.

[/div]
I highly doubt that’s the case with the shoes. I’m sure Morgan just preferred to wear those. A program like Texas can call up their Nike rep and get a new pair of shoes pretty easily.
