On the Yahoo College Sports podcast, before the announcement, Pete Thamel said "It looks like now it is going to be Trev Alberts, the volleyball coach, or an interim." Was John Cook a candidate for the Athletic Director position and what on earth would that have meant for Nebraska volleyball? He would have likely done both. It used to be more common that the AD also coached something, but rarer in this day and age.

He would have no interest, is not qualified, and it would be 100% impossible to do both. that entire job is about getting football going. Period, exclamation point.

Doubt there was any substance to it, but have no tea. Yahoo news and most "news" organizations today find it good business to report rumors and AMUS as news.

You can chalk rumors like this up to uninformed people throwing names out at random, and Cook is a popular name so people kept bringing him up. I doubt he was ever a serious candidate, if at all.

Their AD search started and ended with “who can get football going” ?

Their AD search started and ended with “who can get football going” ? I’d say partially qualified as he would be seem to be able to evaluate coaches and identify who has what it takes to be success in building a program. That being said, the modern AD role and what Nebraska needs right now is not primarily focused on that.

No, this came from Pete Thamel (i.e. someone with a long history of being highly credible in college sports). If he's saying it publicly, he had multiple knowledgable sources saying a volleyball coach was involved. Maybe it was Pettite, or a volleyball coaching alum at another school, but there was a volleyball coach in some form considered near the end of the process. I'd be interested if it were Cook, but I care less if it was someone else.

More likely threw out several reasonable names that may have been in the mix. If one proves true u gain credibility. Basically BPJ guesses, but I have no proof, no more than Thamel can substantiate his anonymous sources....

Neither Pettit or Cook were ever I ever legitimately considered and if you think a volleyball coach from another school was in the mix than I’m not even sure what to say. Think about where they are as an athletic department and then think of rolling out a press conference naming Cook as AD. He’s a brilliant coach, a Nebraska legend but they are at a tipping point here and football must get turned around.

Thanks for posting, avid, I noticed this too. If Jordan likes coaching and is good at it, that will be good for volleyball. She's bigger than Nebraska volleyball though, and the sport may benefit more if she ends up somewhere besides Lincoln. She seems like a midwest or Cali girl but ACC or SEC would be great ....Skinner, Banwarth, Busboom, Larson tapping what seems like a rich, burgeoning talent pool could broaden the legitimate candidates for national titles going forward. Does she want that kind of grind though? Heck she could end up working for USA Volleyball (men's or women's) which would be fine, but impactful in a different way. All that said, if she wants to come home.....GBR!
