Glad the team has some depth for once, but upset with the volleyball gods about the injuries. I hope the blocking gets better, which is the biggest concern at this point, in my opinion. Loberg has been good recently, which has helped a lot. I hope more reps helps improve things on the right side, both blocking and offensively. I love the upside of both Demps and Jardine, and I hope Smrek is available soon, but the middle/right combination of Hart, Rettke and Robinson was really, really good this fall (and not shabby in the spring either). Otherwise, in one thing more under their control, the serving was really good in the non conference, and I hope they get back to that level. Of course, all that said, league opponents are combining to hit .162 against the Badgers, a number which would probably win you a lot of matches. Obviously, Barnes is having a heck of a run, which helps with that. I just hope the Badgers can find a consistently high level at which to play, because this league is tough, but I know we have also been spoiled this year on what they have been able to do in terms of margin of victory against good teams (thus, this week's number 1 Pablo ranking, richkern.com is so worth it, in a shameless plug). BLOCKING: I watched Set 4 vs. Kentucky again....Hart won that set near the end for Wisconsin. And the blocking vs. Iowa was pretty awful - I was distraught when we got home from that match. But...they picked it up again vs. Illinois. I hope the blocking improves on the right side, too. Sheffield talks about blocking and what they are doing about it in his 'press conference' yesterday. uwbadgers.com/watch/?Archive=10093&type=Archive

Other highlights: Sheff says we score on 60% Julia's serves. That's incredible.

Yeah, Orzol was scoring on her serve at ~60% on Saturday. Boyer and MacDonald were both above 60% in that match.
On the year Orzol is at 47.5%.

People complain when a server like Orzol goes 'ace' and then 'error'. 'Ace and error' means they're siding you out at only 50%. I'll take 50%!

They do get really young, but a core of Orzol, Demps, Jardine, Smrek, Hammill, Hart (coming back, I think), Ashburn and MacDonald (who's been getting more time) is pretty strong. Add in Wrobel and the pins are stacked. They need middle depth next year and maybe a DS/L transfer or two. Robinson and Boyer too And don't forget Reed.

Don't ask me how she managed it, but at 8:30 tonight - a little more than three hours after she had been on a volleyball court in a different state - there was Dana Rettke walking up the aisle next to the section I was sitting in at Camp Randall for the UW-Army football game. No, I wasn't close enough to ask "How in the world...?" but for all the obvious reasons, there was no mistaking who it was.
Impressive travel arrangements, and impressive school sprit, etc.

Good chance lots of the team were at the game: Shef. Hustled them out of the gym and back to Madison!!! Go Badgers

It got a mention on BTN as if the announcers knew they were going to the game after the match. They could have left at 6 and been back by 7 or so. Only 15-20 minutes from Truax to the fieldhouse (especially if the crowd was already in the stadium).

Great win tonight and the atmosphere seemed electric. Hopefully the students can make it out again tomorrow since the FB is away.
Soooo… any recruits at the game?
