I didn't find the Gregorski article, but above is the weekend prep article for MSU and Minnesota.

Okay, Badgers. How're we feeling this morning?

Okay, Badgers. How're we feeling this morning? Well, feeling better with Demps. Liked the blocking sub. Civita steadies the passing SO much. Grace needs to find it these last few matches for us to see the final four. She seems to go for it when not warranted, tip when it doesn't make sense. She drives me crazy.

Okay, Badgers. How're we feeling this morning? Exhausted. But more wondering how Civita is feeling after that much workload. Shef certainly has experimented with enough lineups so I'm hoping we have what we need going forward as far as some familiarity. Sure happy with the Demps experiment though, not just the hitting but not too bad at D (actually quite good often). I hope UW siezes the moment against NE, it's huge (obviously).

Civita is an absolute trooper. So glad to see her play yesterday, and I really hope she holds up until the end of the season!

Demps was Sunday's unsolvable X-factor for MN. Definitely the MVP from my seat. MN seemed to want to limit their SEs and, aside from a few from CC and Myers, did not seem to challenge the WI pass. WI can reach the national final if their passing remains sound and Hilley has multiple options. Opposing teams have learned to counter Orzol at the left pin on 'standard' 5x5 sets. Just as I wish MN would vary set speed and location to their OHs Hilley needs to give Orzol line & tool opportunities with slightly wider sets and/or bring her into the gap for 31s. She's very athletic. Trying to bang through big B1G blocks has stopped working. MN had good success and some fearsome Samedy pounds with quick backsets and MN had trouble closing a block on the right also.
I would personally enjoy a national final with a third Purdue - WI battle.

This team is emotionally exhausting.
But I am grateful for them all.

"Trust"
Civita's role as "fuoco" under the Badgers is confirmed.

My own view is that overall, the Badgers have had a very strong year, even with key (unexpected/unfortunate) injuries. We have met most expectations in my mind. And even with some “bad beats” and confounding play at times (welcome to the B1G), we remain the team to be beat in the league and a legit NC contender. We dropped a couple to a surging and very athletic Purdue team lately, but hey, we have still handily beaten some of the best teams in college VB, including a much improved and top Gopher team at their place yesterday, albeit in 5. Thatz pretty good.
My first thought is Sheffield has made a hurculean effort putting/keeping this team together given the injuries. It isn't exactly surprising.
Now, our hitting has been very good as a team, but we would be near the top again with some more consistent performances from our “studs”. All I can add is thank goodness for Dana (and a surging Jade Demps).
This brings us to passing and serving. I’m not an expert observer or stat evaluator, but my sense is that passing isn't great, obviously, but it is still good enough to win the title. I think Gio’s story is breathtaking and perhaps impossible. Though I love that we can rally around another hero on this team. I also think our serving - with few exceptions, has been great. Service Aces are about where they have been the last couple of seasons. The Badgers are clearly a tough serving team. We can clean up the errors of course, and always be more consistent. But our strong service game has helped keep us successful this season.
I think our setter has been elite. Hilley is Hilley. A true team leader and exceptional athlete. Volleyball IQ and maturity that just oozes. A world beating connection with Dana, obviously. But on few occasions, I see poor/missed connections, which is troubling to me at this late stage. Still the best in the business. Already a legend in the program joining her predecessor.
Now this is the dicey part. IMHO, our biggest problem is the break down of senior leadership on occasion. I don’t know how you can just be pedal to the metal world beaters during games, and then just unexpectedly let teams get off the hook in so many sets. Itz not a lack of talent or stamina. Like I said earlier... confounding.
Love this team’s prospects. On Wisconsin!!

In my continuing effort to keep this thread on Page 1.... Hey Badger fans! Did you know Wisconsin will welcome back a famous All-American on Friday night? "2. IT'S HAPPENING, HILLEY: Graduate student Sydney Hilley is on track to break the UW career record for assists. Hilley ranks second with 5,801 assists, needing 33 assists to better the school record of 5,833 assists set by Laura Abbinante (1993-96), who will be in attendance on Friday night. Abbinante currently ranks eighth in the Big Ten in career assists."
I first saw her play in '96 in the Field House. Great visitor for Friday night's match, as she played under John Cook, who will also be there.
