Dennis has a tribute to the Badgers seniors. Badgers fans are truly spoiled by the success of this group - definitely the most feted group in badger history. It will be interesting to see how their lessons are internalized by the current underclassmen in future seasons.

I think the Badgers got a pretty good draw this evening.
They know a bit about UCLA from 2019, they know a lot about Minnesota, and they saw Baylor at the start of the season. Stanford could come out of the Minnesota sub-bracket, but they won't have Inky Ajanaku with them...I don't think.

Haha if we can make it out of Minnesota I’m stoked to get a chance at this Awesome Wisconsin team. Hilly is such a baller I love the way she sets her offense.

I dunno. I don’t like the idea of facing Minnesota again after nearly blowing that match in Minneapolis despite large leads in the first 3 sets. And you think you know teams like UCLA and Baylor but things do change. UCLA seems to have improved throughout the year, even with the loss to USC at the end. Baylor just beat Texas, which I wouldn’t have predicted based on early season form.
I don’t think this is an easy draw outside of the first weekend, but that’s why you play a tough schedule.

In the regional, I really wanted to avoid Kentucky and Nebraska (even though the Badgers have beaten them many times in a row). UCLA then Baylor/Minnesota certain is certainly not easy, but it kind of feels like it could've been worse.

I made my predictions not based on specific guesses about individual outcomes, but a guess at joint probabilities of winning or losing particular matches added up over a season. By that measure, and despite injuries/adjustments that really sidetracked the badgers at different points in the B1G, they have actually overperformed (or their opponents have underperformed!). There are not many badger teams that have gone through a season with only three losses. In fact, there are only two others - 2014 and 1997.

Watching the Nebraska match again. Some things strike me.
First, Nebraska played very very well. Outside of Samedy, that was the best the badgers have seen this year. As a group, their backcourt is better than McGraw - Kilkenny - Wenaas, even with Samedy making 20+ digs.
Nebraska was really exploiting that same seam between Loberg and the primary passers that caused so much trouble in 2019. But Loberg also doing better on attack without the weight of passing, so it is a wash? Will they figure this out better by the regionals?
Civita is so goddamned important it's hard to stress it enough. She made some simply amazing plays for someone supposedly on one peg. Hard to believe. And she is the unapologetic passion this team needs.
Orzol really really struggled in this match. Even my brother who knows nothing about volleyball could see it clearly. It was the one thing he understood. Still, I loved how she fought and stayed in the game and made some key backrow plays the last two sets. She fought off some really gnarly serves. I'm not sure the badgers will face another serve that difficult this year - unless they face Nebraska again.
Hilley is making some magic right now. She doesn't always connect perfectly with her hitters, but she is being brave and when she gets them the right set, look out. The transition game right now is like day to night compared to earlier in the B1G season. If Barnes and co can keep it up, other teams need to watch out. Also, where did this defense from Hilley come from? She is much better in that respect than in previous years.
Smrek really has to work on the high OOS balls. Her attacks on those are tame compared to her in system attacks. She doesn't look like she knows what she wants to do in those situations. Demps is doing way better on those, but I think Smrek will come around eventually. She was much better on the block this match.
This team has seen some progress but can still get substantially better.

I was actually conservative in my prediction of 26-2, and thought a perfect record was a distinct possibility with this group. Nothing necessarily scientific in my reasoning. I went through the entire schedule and surmised that away losses to both Purdue and Nebraska would not be unreasonable. With the unprecedented level of talent, depth, and experience present on this team, I would not have been the least bit surprised by 28 wins.
With that said, I agree that these amazing young women overachieved on some level, especially with the injuries.
I just watched the latest BadgerVB hype video on Twitter, and honestly, it really landed for me. Wow!...really gonna miss these seniors.
On Wisconsin! The NC is within reach!!
