Buried in the ridiculously strict rules about attendance to Colorado Crossroads (not released until after the deadline to withdraw) were two very unusual rules -- No standing, and no tripods. What does that have to do with COVID you ask? Well, clearly nothing: www.crossroadslivestream.comI'm sure they don't care that our club who usually sends 15-20 teams every will never play there again, but we won't. I secretly hope that other clubs disgusted by this won't go any more either. Plenty of other more friendly qualifiers. Not only can only one parent attend (and not trade daily with other parent) but they get to spend another $50 each to watch on the internet.

How do either of those rules make them shady or greedy? Perhaps the fire Marshall told them they had to keep their isles clear... It happens... Fire mathsalls change rules almost on the fly... Becuase they can... The FM in Miami when GJNC was there threatened to shut the event down every 45mins because “chairs were out of line”... and because he could...

If they were charging people to rent out tripods, then I could understand. Like when the NEQ provided zero chairs, but you could rent them from the convention center...

That’s not unlike an event not having any control over city parking... but the city owning the parking garage and providing it...

The entire JO enterprise is founded on the objective of gouging volleyball parents for every dollar they can. Until parents say "enough!" it ain't going to stop.

^^^ club sports in general. The top athletes would get DI scholarships anyway, just playing for the school teams and being two- or three- sport athletes over the school year.
BIG money (profit) in club sports. Money in owning/running dedicated volleyball facilities, too.

If only one parent actually makes the trip you’re probably saving more than $50 on admissions and food

I'm guessing that the OP was hinting that Crossroads is trying to funnel parents towards having to use BallerTV in order to watch gamesinstead of parentsbeing able to livestream it for free for those who couldn't be there.
I wished our club would've chosen Qualifiers in States that were less restrictive but alas Crossroads stayed on the list. I hate spending money in States that are more restrictive than I'd like. Fortunately Denver is only allowing one parent in the Convention Center to watch the games so I'm not even going.

Top athletes?...maybe, but the development and exposure to top competition that happens with Club is not duplicated in High School. Not even close. Personally, I feel the concept of the three sport high school athlete is antiquated and romanticized.

but the development and exposure to top competition that happens with Club is not duplicated in High School. Sure, I believe that. For the very top players, who are likely going to major college programs, this is meaningful and makes sense to me. For alllllllllll the rest of them -- ie, the parents who get duped into dumping thousands upon thousands ... for what .... -- that's my big problem with it.

If a parent has been in the Club system for any amount of years, they should be able to read the writing on the wall if their kid is constantly on lower teams. Clubs never say, "We guarantee your child will be a College superstar." That being said many athletes on 3's teams or lower still get school scholarships that are sport related.
