Are there any known players who came back to normal from this severe on an injury? I’m hoping we’ll see with Poulter this spring/summer (Personally my hopes aren’t high)

Are there any known players who came back to normal from this severe on an injury? Different position, but McKenna Miller came back from an ACL tear in mid-November 2018. She was WCC Player of the Year the next season. Modern medicine has come a long way. It wasn't that long ago (80s and maybe into the 90s) that an ACL tear was often a career ending injury. I would say that a lot of athletes across all sports recover within a year. Not sure how much the MCL tear adds to recovery, if at all, but I think Stucky will be back next season.

Are there any known players who came back to normal from this severe on an injury? Khat Bell tore her ACL in November 2011 and won the national championship as starting middle blocker in December 2012.

My dad tore his ACL in the late 80s and then again in 2011. The difference in recovery was INSANE. In the 80s he had to move back in with his parents--my grandmother had to help him get dressed every morning. In 2011 he walked out of the hospital after surgery under his own power.

So then the question for Stucky becomes - does Mary schedule another match so that she can redshirt this year? I think she's at 9/27 matches played which is just past at the cut-off for medical redshirts. I think? The "denominator" for VB is 29, regardless of the individual school's schedule. Playing 9 matches is the max, but she qualifies for a medical hardship having played only 9.

Are there any known players who came back to normal from this severe on an injury? The list is LONG, including Florida great Aycan Gokberk from UK who tore 1 ACL in the regional final, then another in the early matches of the next year. Came back her senior season as a top NPOY candidate, and the Gators were 2 points shy of another Final Four. I'm sure Stucky will have surgery soon, rehab like a warrior, and be back to set the team in '24, 25, AND 26.

Read the news, completely devastated in Stucky. She has definitely loved the program and I know she's going to work hard to be back. The support she's receiving is inspiring and I hope it gives her strength to get back. I 100% believe in this Team to make a deep run and break a record and maybe a Natty.

Now the limit is 32 matches so the denominator is 33 (or maybe 32?). Either way, she qualifies for a medical hardship and this season will not count as one of her four.

Are there any known players who came back to normal from this severe on an injury? Murray from the Denver Nuggets was able to rehab and come back stronger but it takes a ridiculous amount of work and strength training. But the answer is yes it is possible to come back stronger.

Reading all the comments from stuckys post actually almost made me tear up. all the love and support from almost every ncaa women’s vball player really just shows how great of a player she is, and an even better person. You don’t get that kinda love unless you’re something special. All the love and prayers to stucky🙏🏼🫶

I'm very fond of Stucky from her work on USA teams. She's a treasure.
This is a tough thing for her to endure. I hope she gets an excellent surgeon and events start breaking better for her. She has a long rehab road ahead of her, and will need to be very patient and determined. As others have noted, these sorts of injuries are not a sure career ender anymore. There's reason to hope she can stage a comeback. In the meantime, she should also focus on school and get ahead in that area. Her many fans will try to cope with her.

Public/fan support is such a welcomed boost of wind in the sails for an injured athlete. Such is usually the case with injuries caught on film (and replayed in slo-mo) for all to see. It's so good to see athletes, coaches and fans from across the sport reach out in support of an injured athlete.
What I don't get is the secrecy when it's an injury not visible to the public (e.g., hypothetically of course, broken vertebrae, torn hip labrum(s), torn patellar tendon(s), etc.) Injuries that clearly affect ability to perform at 100%, but hey let's not tell anyone, you're forbidden to talk about it, let's just let the rumors fly, commentators know, but pretend to not as they have been instructed. So the stats drop, the mental/psych game tanks, you just shut up and play injured, never really healing, never allowed to return to fully healthy. Little to no support emotionally or mentally because your use has waned and the trainers are weary of you. I don't get it, never will.
No injury is welcomed, but if it did come, I would prefer the rush of support from every direction over the latter.
