2-0 to start SEC play is always great. I thought UGA and Auburn both were going to be tough tests (even if we had Stucky) so two 5 setters surprised me none. I'm just impressed by how we won. Muff is doing great. She has 84 total assists or 8.4 assists/set in her first 2 D1 starts. Not too shabby, especially as we can only imagine she'll be earning a lot more assists as the connection with Martin improves. Got 6 kills tonight and they looked smooth, whether it was setter dumps or jousts. It looks like she can be actually offensive which is something we need. She also has 2 digs per set (good for 2nd on the team) and .7 blocks/set in these last 2 games. Martin looked great in the first 2 sets and was even hitting great back row attacks and 00S attacks on the right. Didn't get a kill in the 3rd set, it's like Florida forgot she was there. Got back on track a bit in the 4th. Her and Muff are making progress in the right direction overall though. The middles are...better than they have been, but that bar is low. Okammar handled a clutch overpass tonight! I was way more excited about that than I should have been. They are blocking well. Okammor has 1.70 blocks/set in her 2 SEC starts and the team had 2.90 blocks/set this weekend. We need to get Dixon more involved in the offense OOS maybe like UGA did with Fischer tonight throwing up high balls in the middle. Our relatively undersized OHs have been going off. ACF led us against Auburn and Victoria turned around and did it against Georgia. We gotta stop talking about subbing them out. They are carrying this team while Martin/Muff figure out their connection. ACF is hitting .230 for the season with 104 kills and Victoria is at .220 with 105 kills. Victoria is leading the team in kills (29), kills/set (3.22) and hitting efficiency (.264) through the first 2 conference matches. She's picking up where she left off in conference last season. Passing hasn't been great, but I like the scrappiness of the defense. I agree with Whittemore's comments tonight that they are putting too much pressure on themselves to be perfect for Muff. Rotation 1 is a head scratcher. Not sure why Martin isn't an option on the outside. She runs a 2 but the passing has been shaky so it typically goes out to AC, or it's a drift middle set and Martin gets blocked or hits wide. I think Sofia should be the L1 so she can swing Opp (she is effective there) and Martin is an outlet on the left. Agree she and Muff will get better, and Martin also is performing exactly how you'd expect a freshman to: human. She went off early, benefited by a great connection/relationship with Stucky. She does shaken up still, and teams are all over her. But, she will mature. Agree Dixon has to be more of a presence OOS and in general. And the back row trip need to calm down, stay in position, and stop over-compensating, as it's making them too error prone. Nice to see Mary seeming to enjoy this and letting them gel. A&M is another tough one, and Tennessee will be very tough to beat. But you never know... I think they finally went back to this (at least for one or two sets) against South Carolina. Sofia hits just fine on the right and Martin is okay on the left. But Martin in the middle just doesn't work lol.

I recently realized that with Stucky, Hutson and Essix either sidelined or hindered with injuries, our starting lineup consists of seniors or grads besides Martin. I like what this maturity can mean for Florida as this group meshes together through more matches. It will be interesting to see which seniors use their covid year.
S: Muff - grad MB: Dixon - grad MB: Okammor - sr OH: ACF - sr OH: Victoria - sr L: McKissock - sr RS: Martin - fr

I’m pretty certain that, so far no senior has stayed for a fifth year at UF. Sure, we’ve gotten transfers, but otherwise everyone who has had the option of a fifth year has taken it elsewhere.

I think we will be in good shape either way with the big time freshmen class, transfer portal and those returning from injury. Wouldn't mind if 1 or 2 of the seniors stayed for continuity though. But I agree, it will likely be a fresh starting lineup next year besides Martin and the DSs.

But I agree, it will likely be a fresh starting lineup next year besides Martin and the DSs. Scholarship-wise: OH: Hutson (R-Fr), Gravlee (So), Harden (Fr) Opp: Martin (So) S: Stucky (R-So), Parks (Fr) MB: Essix (Sr), Auguste (Fr), Rothe (Fr), Thomas (R-So) L: ? Canaan (Jr), Adams (Jr), Hoyle (Jr), Cornier (So), Vogel (Fr), Lee (Fr) 2024 will be, on paper, a very young team. No idea which if the 100 DSs get $. I can see Mary wanting to keep 1 of Fitzpatrick or Victoria. Guessing Victoria goes pro and AC stays. Also, Thomas is potentially going to the portal since she’s gotten no shots this season. So I think Mary goes for some pin depth/experience in the portal if the current OHs go, or to add another MB/Dixon-style utility if Thomas leaves (though Rothe can swing from anywhere, too).

OK, I have finally been more than convinced that I must reset my expectations for this team this season. The team that seemed to hang with #1 Wisconsin fairly competently even after loosing their all American setter was a mirage. The five set matches before the matchup with Wisconsin were already concerning enough. I was already wondering if smoke and mirrors explained the sweeps of Stanford, on their court, and Minnesota. Although those were concret wins in the book the team looked very vulnerable against some lesser competition. Let’s hope that the current team has some future upsets up their sleeves and play much better than tonight against Auburn. Right now however, I don’t see them beating Tennessee or Arkansas and by the time they play Kentucky, Kentucky will probably be hitting on all cylinders. We lost our setter and so it was too much to ask this team to meet the built up expectations of big top ten wins of the early season. Still hoping for the best for this team. Really hoping the early season exploits this year is a great omen for next season when we hopefully will have all the best components available.

Couldn't get a chance to watch the match, but based off the stats it looked like Florida played well. It just seems Anderson went off and played better. Any other takes from those who watched?

This season is the definition of IAKOW. Let's just cheer on this team to be the best they can be. Brighter seasons are ahead, Gators.

That goes in the “Hot Take” thread. Gators were way off. Don’t watch the match. Shield your eyes. We shall move on.

The stats I saw had Auburn doing better than Florida in all key categories including FL - A: points 37-59, kills 33-47, aces 2-7, blocks 2-5. Two blocks in a match must be a season low. It was not pretty.

Match thread had 7 pm. That’s been corrected. First serve was at 1:00 E and on right now.
