I’m guessing BYU feels the same. Fortunately for Hawaii BYU is no where close to the LBSU team they lost to in the last National final. True. BYU is no where close to the 2019 LBSU team. Also, this Hawaii team is better then the Hawaii team that faced that 2019 LBSU, for the National Championship. No. this Hawaii is is really good but nowhere near the 2019 team. Joe was a better setter and SVT was light years better than Chaz. If BYU forces Hawaii off the net and has to rely on Chaz, Cowell and Rado out of system I don’t see it happening for Hawaii. On the other hand if BYU has to rely on Gardini, Zach and GGF out of system i give the edge to the cougars.

I have been rooting for Hawaii to win since Taylor Averill and Siki Zarkovic days and My heart still goes to Hawaii. However, the Gabi and Davide tandem is hard to beat if they’re on. BYU’s serves are better than Hawaii’s. Hawaii has a tendency to do lollipops serves in tight matches, instead of going all out. The only reliable server for Hawaii lately is Thelle. Chaz loves his lollipop serves which basically is a side out game right away and Colton has been off with his serves the past couple of matches. They can’t rely just on Rado to carry the team. I hope players are on so we see a great match. The semifinals was mehh, with just too many errors, I agree with this serving observation. That’s Charlie’s strategy and one of the main reasons they lost in 2019.l That’s what I thought too when they lost in 2019. Just too many freebie lollipop serves towards the end of the match. I love Colton but in tight matches, he looks so tense and gone are his lethal serves. Which is a shame coz the team was good to win and still is. Go all out Bows tomorrow!

If Hawaii attacks their serve it will limit BYU's options to the outside. Noted. But vs a good serving team like BYU, that passing can easily go out the window ie. vs UCSD where they got aced so many times by McCauley and Ka. Re-Gage - big fan here and I am glad he finally is looking like his old self in passing and digging (he was very good in semis)coz he wasn’t really great in some matches early on. I hope he shows up in the finals like that. Again, it is the finals and I hope they are all on their top game so we get entertained by a great match. 😊 A

Gage 2019 was better than 2021 except for his semis match where he finally was digging balls and passing great. (i didn’t notice an overpass reception vs UCSB). LBSU 2019with amazing TJ DeFalco was out of this world way better than BYU 2021

lot of pressure on the setters, who aren't the level of the two setters in the 2019 NC, so match could go a lot of different ways
Chance for Rado to put up in a Big Match, that he hasn't necessarily always done.

If BYU passes well, they win, regardless of how Hawaii plays. If Hawaii passes well, and BYU does not, Hawaii wins. If neither team passes well, BYU wins.

I think it's hard to predict the outcome because they have zero common opponents. Normally, we'd have a better idea because of non-conference play. I would not be surprised if either team won, and I wouldn't be surprised if either team won rather easily. It's just hard to say.

BYU is not that much more talented than Hawaii. I think poster's theory is that if both teams are not passing well, BYU's Outsides are better OOS hitters, which would put the game in their favor. I think it's a valid theory, in Hawaii's favor is that it's block can also turn the game around if BYU can't pass and is too predictable.

Key for Hawaii is to pass well so Thelle doesn’t need to resort to the bailout plan and overset Rado. We know that doesn’t bode well when he’s always blasting away and getting blocked by good teams because the sets are low and tight. If they pass as well as last night, Warriors win. When the bailout play is in force, Rado needs to hit smarter...dink over the block or sweep it off the blocker’s hands out of bounds. Like what Thelle did last night faking the kill shot and setting the hitters instead. That should continue vs BYU, need to split that huge BYU block.

Agreed, BYU's OOS right now is much more potent than Hawaii. Cowell and Galloway struggle to terminate on OOS sets. Rado has been really inconsistent OOS recently. Then again, its a title game tomorrow. Throw everything out the window. Whichever team shows up to win, will win lol.
