This tournament is really showing off how parts of America are completely different worlds right now. UCLA allowing only a pass list. Heck Duke wasn't even willing to host. While Oklahoma's stadium is mostly full and mostly unmasked.

While Oklahoma's stadium is mostly full and mostly unmasked. Duke actually did submit a bid. The NCAA did not select them as one of the Top 20 potential hosts. At the time, it looked like Clemson or Virginia Tech were the better ACC candidates to host. There were rumors they did not submit a bid because they weren't willing to allow fans all season, but it was confirmed after the selection. The committee chair spoke and said that Duke's restrictions did not play a part in not selecting them as a host. But, the rest of your post, is definitely true. Things are being handled very differently around the country. www.onlineathens.com/story/sports/college/bulldogs-extra/2021/05/20/uga-softball-regionals-lu-harris-champer-ncaa-softball-tournament/5175781001/

Announcer is saying how she likes the Michigan strategy of first-pitch hitting, although they just made two outs on two pitches.

Fresno State holds UCLA scoreless through the top of the sixth. The Bruins will have three more outs.

Fresno State takes their 1-0 lead to the bottom of the 6th looking for insurance against UCLA.

Any specifics about why Duke's bid was rejected then?

UGH. I HATE the Obstruction rule and its application by umpires. It's ambiguous and is constantly inconsistently called.
BYU's coach is furious. South Florida could have got the call and lead national-seed Florida in their match.

Weird. Any specifics about why Duke's bid was rejected then? Nothing was said specifically (that I've heard). But, my assumption is that they had to predict who would have the best chance to be the Top 16 seeds by seasons' end (they were determined a couple weeks before the selection process and season end). I don't think they expected Duke to win the ACC Tournament. If Duke didn't win the ACC Tournament, they most likely would have not had a seed resume. But, they emerged as the best ACC candidate. Virginia Tech lost all 4(!) games in a series to Notre Dame after they were approved to be a potential host. They and Clemson, at the time, were better possibilities than Duke (IMO). It's really hard, even two weeks out, to predict who the top 16 seeds will be. We know this in volleyball. But, they thought 20 would be enough with a 4-team buffer. It wasn't.

South Florida could have got the call and lead national-seed Florida in their match. I think obstruction is a necessary rule (a good example is the walkoff obstruction call in Game 3 of the 2013 World Series--that was basically a textbook example of obstruction and absolutely the right call). That said, I agree that umpires don't always call it consistently or correctly, let alone both.

I do think there is a need for the rule, but I wish there was a way to make things more uniform and equally applied. Is obstruction a reviewable play in MLB ? I think I remember a specific Miami game where it was reviewed and the TV commentator lost his sh*t.

Top of the seventh, two outs, Wichita State has the tying runs on base down 7-5.
Edit: Oklahoma gets the last out on a strikeout swinging.

Arizona led 8-0, but Ole Miss now trails just 6-8 in the 4th inning. Wild.

UCLA got the leadoff runner on and moved her over to second on sacrifice bunt.
