I love reading posts from all the experts on here criticizing everything possible from these two matches regarding a team that played their first two matches in - well, a long time. On top of that, the pressure is high on several position players to make the Olympic roster. Give our women a few days before you become Stephen A. Smith. Then what should people do? Sing karaoke? This is a volleyball forum to discuss...well volleyball. Players, tactics, strategy, coaches, rules, etc. etc.

Simply provide adequate time for the athletes to become acclimated to the situation. I know they are pros, but I’ve seen guys in the NBA play poorly in the first game of the season. There might be other topics for you to expand on...

I don't have any issues with her setting. But it almost felt at times like she was ignoring Plummer, especially on the pipe sets. Could just be perception. sometimes if a player is getting served a ton, coaches will tell their setters to not set them as much to reduce the load (at least in my experience). plus Carlini might not have that connection fully down yet and in some situations feels more comfortable setting someone else. IMO, this was the match to keep figuring out that connection, instead of going to Drews on the majority of OOS plays (which isn't wrong at all either). But Carlini already has that connection with Drews. Plus, if someone is passing bad, doesn't mean their offensive output should be lessened just to take pressure off them. Set them the ball, let them get kills and build their confidence back up so it carries over into the passing game. But that's just how I would approach it.

Case in point: find one match Hannah Tapp has played where the match thread doesn’t include comments that are intended solely to slam her. (“Why is she here?” “The only thing she adds is some pep” “Karch should stop taking her” etc. These things knowingly add nothing to the discussion and are statements that are only made to get a rise out of others.) My favorite is today’s comment at the end of the match “I should’ve gone grocery shopping.” Okay, why didn’t you? What were you expecting here? If you don’t like it why did you both tune into it AND come read an internet thread about it?

I'm all for not being overly picky and strict about rotation violations. But this is stupid and needs to be called. Pet peeve of mine. (Drews is in left front)

Some criticism is probably warranted and some not. Just because people are only “fans”, doesn’t mean they don’t see things. I agree it’s early in this tournament, but Olympics are fast approaching and the USA fans would love to see a gold medal. I don’t see the harm in the discussion (whatever people’s opinions are), as it isn’t like anyone is criticizing a player to their face. 😉

Carlini has got to start setting Plummer more on the off passes. Just throw it up there & let her clean it up. She may as well make up for some of her off passes. tbh, some of Plummer’s best kills today were on high OOS balls. I’m all for seeing more of this. Seems like thats her biggest value
