A single point in the 200 clinches the team title for SC. They literally just need both runners to finish (or have one finish not in last).
They also have an entrant in the 4x4 and someone jumping in the TJ still in case that doesn't happen.

Gittens finishes 3rd in the HJ. Between South Carolina's Glenn and TAMU's Distin as the bar goes to 6-4 So Gittens ends up with 24 points by herself (second in long jump, first in heptathlon), as long as she shows up in 800 for the heptathlon. Great couple of days for her for sure.

Sturgis doubles the 100-200! Wow. Just a sophomore too.

Sturgis does it again to pull off the 100/200 double. Wow. Clemson needs to call Duane Ross immediately after this meet.

SC wins for the women. Crazy their coach might leave.

Jill Montgomery just said that Tyra Gittens is "chipping away at her lead and adding to her lead." Wtf does that mean? I'm starting to think she is drunk.

OK I've got to go. Team race is wrapped up anyways. 5K prediction is Chelangat-Orton-Donaghu.

As expected, Gittens wins the heptathlon. It seems quite cruel to end that gauntlet with the 800m of all races. Ugh.

Orton put a gap on the field early, but they reeled her in, and she's fading badly. I guess she'll have to settle for the team cross country title. It will be interesting to see if she returns. I know she's thought about turning pro, but she has eligibility left, and I'm not sure she's quite ready to make the jump yet.

Texas A&M was trailing USC going into the anchor leg, but Athing Mu made up the deficit rapidly en route to a collegiate record 3:22.34 in the 4 x 400.

Final team results for the women:
1. USC - 74 2. Texas A&M - 63 3. Georgia 37.5 4t. Alabama - 31 4t. North Carolina A&T - 31 6. LSU - 28.5 7t. Florida - 28 7t. Texas - 28 9. Arizona State - 22 10. BYU - 20
NC A&T finishes on the podium on both the men's and women's side, which is an incredible achievement for them.

It will be interesting to see who USC hires. One name I've seen mentioned is Curtis Taylor, the associate head coach at Oregon. This poster (who claimed to be willing to bet a bunch of Olympic Trials tickets) also predicted that Clemson will indeed poach Duane Ross from NC A&T. I guess we'll see. Also, while I'm sure Smith Gilbert will be recruit some star sprinters, I'm interested to see how she develops Matthew Boling. He was the indoor champion in the 200m, but I think he may have regressed a bit for outdoors. I think Smith Gilbert will do a better job of helping him reach his potential than the previous coach would.

Sad to see Coach depart afters leading the Women to a title. But there were tons of seniors and redshirt seniors on the squad. Looks like some rebuilding time in Troy.
