Fahnbulleh has to have the worst form of any sprinter I've seen. Damn fast though. His strides are enormous.

Men's 10K coming up. This has the potential to be a really good race with Mantz, Kiptoo, Kurgat, etc.

Men's 10K coming up. This has the potential to be a really good race with Mantz, Kiptoo, Kurgat, etc. Low 60s, post-rain but clear. Good conditions for a great time. Kiptoo isn't afraid to take it out fast, so we won't get a snooze fest tactical race either.

I always forget how disrespectfully ESPN treats the longer distance races. Trying to do anything but discuss the race. Kiptoo took it out quick but is fading. Large lead pack with 2 laps to go in the 10K.

Wow, Patrick Dever of Tulsa was a real darkhorse to take it over Mantz. They said Dever set his personal best by over 40 seconds.

Tulsa guy breaks his PB by 40 seconds, 8 runners break the meet record in the 10K (good conditions, fast race). Mantz takes second. Wouldn't expect the BYU guy to rock pink shoes. Total makeover for him cuz he also shaved off the pornstache.

Dever had the 12th-fastest PB in the field going into the race. He was fifth at cross country nationals, though, so maybe not a total shock.

Also, no surprise, but JuVaughn Harrison secured 10 points for LSU in the long jump in their quest for the team title. They have 14 points total so far.

LSU failing to qualify in the 4 x 400 takes some of their expected points off the board.

LSU failing to qualify in the 4 x 400 takes some of their expected points off the board. ..But then they pull an upset win in the javelin on the last throw. LSU already has this locked up, unless they all get food poisoning and don't show up on Friday. Their margin for error was just way too large to begin with, and all of the 2nd place contenders except NCA&T either lost big points or had all of their potential upset points not qualify out of prelims. It's gonna be really tightly packed from 2-15 or 20 though. The good news is Hayward is done, so Oregon recruiting will get back to normal and we'll be back on top soon enough

Day 2 of outdoor nationals is about to begin on ESPN2. There are titles on the line in women's field events, men's decathlon and the women's 10K. There is also qualification in most of the track events for the finals that will be held on Saturday in what is shaping up to be a very close team race.

The ESPN announcers were obsessed with Krissy Gear in the 1500, who is a good runner, but they ignored Sage Hurta, who has both the fastest time in the event this year and was the indoor mile champion, until the bell lap. Ridiculous. The second heat was very slow, and Orton failed to qualify. I'm sure that's a disappointment for her, but maybe it's for the best now that she can just focus on the 5K and not have to run a 1500 a couple hours prior.

ESPN coverage of the distance races continues to suck. I get steeplechase is the event of last resort, but come on, at least show it.
Finally saw the replay of the BYU protest against Reed Brown yesterday that was somehow (?) upheld - their coach just protests everything and I guess once in a while he gets lucky, so I'm anti-Cougar today. He also tried to take out Cole Hocker at regionals with a BS protest, but at least the officials were sane then.

Wayment ran a 9:32:48 steeplechase, which is a really fast time for a qualifier. It was apparently the fastest qualifying time ever in the event.
