The difference between casual volleyball fans and dedicated international fans in this thread is quite clear. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with being in either of those groups - just simply there are two very different perspectives and we're trying to get everyone to agree.
There are some who just like to watch the volleyball and see some of their favorite college players play for USA and that's awesome. Other's (myself included) watch with a sharper eye on the details, extrapolate what we're seeing and voice concern.
Is there some crisis manufacturing sometimes in these threads? sure. Should the USA Olympic Team be in a competitive match with some of these teams? no.

Set 2 really wasnt as much of a disaster as the scoreline would suggest. (service errors aside)
USA terminated at 71% (!) in set 2 (and passed 70/43). They were at 50% in set 1, 33% in set 3.
Belgium was at 10%, 35%, 25%.

When you read all of these VNL threads you’d think the US has not won a match not other way around. They’re doing what they’re supposed to. Although they didn’t face much of tough competition they beat most of the teams very easily. Give them some break, they do not choose who are they playing against. it’s not being hypercritical voicing that the USA Olympic roster should not be going extra points with a Belgium team that was resting some starters.... same with voicing concern with krobs offense and MBH passing. Krob hit .333 tho this match. What more can you expect? Also they went extra points in one of the sets while they destroyed them the other two. All of the players there are very GOOD volleyball players. It’s important to win even if you’re not might be playing your best and the US is doing exactly that. |

Yes, some of it is overdramatic. But the claims that everyone is acting like USA is winless in this competition is also completely overdramatic. It's not unique to USA either. Reading other comments/forums/etc from fans of other national teams, it's at least the same, if not much worse. It's what fans do. |

Exactly! It's such a good fit and I feel like they're learning from each other, which is great. I think their styles are really contrasting too. JTs contact point is just ridiculous whereas Drews has her “unique” swing going on lol like dang lol (also how does Drews not like hurt her elbow)   |

That’s a stretch to say that half the posters want US to fail because they don’t like Karch. I actually don't think it's a stretch. Have you been reading all of these VNL match threads? Hmm…I must have missed all the posts where the posters are saying they want US to lose. Posters are critical of Karch and the roster but that hardly makes them want to lose? But, I could be wrong! |

Comments like these -.- They have done well period. It doesn’t matter who you play you still have to show up and play good volleyball to win. Idc if it’s Belgium B team or Serbia with Boskovic. They’ve showed up and played well, you can’t ask for more. Some of you never played high level sport and it’s easy to tell.Maybe some of the players are reading these forums and y’all drag these players way too much. |

Posters are critical of Karch and the roster but that hardly makes them want to lose? But, I could be wrong! The only team we all want to lose is Brazil. That seems to include all US fans + the spare outsider Canadian, Dominican, Chinese, Serbian, etc. fans here. Well, then there's Italy represented by Reach+Egonu, but, let her mourn however she sees fit. Actually, I think there's one Brazilian here who supports our Brasil Superliga tea and thread, and we appreciate you, don't take it personal  |

See, but that's the point I don't think you get. They CAN ask for more. A lot of these posters want USA to see its first Gold Medal this Summer, and they want to be playing their highest level of volleyball and dominating here if the teams aren't of the best quality. China brought it's A-team today against Netherlands and didn't skip a beat. The 3rd set was very tight, but that's also without Zhu Ting. I don't see players NOT meeting Gold-Medal like expectations equivalent to 'dragging' those players. For example, take the most recent comments about Kelsey Robinson. Serbia would probably be a gold medal favorite if they had KRob. The problem is the USA system demands more of her, and USA fans are not sure she is going to be able to produce what *they* need. It is not a knock on her personally. |

They aren't playing for a participation trophy. They are playing for Olympic gold this year. Whether they win or lose in the VNL against Belgium is immaterial. We need/want to see our Olympic roster looking capable of medaling Though, losing against Belgium sans starters would really give reason for concern. You may not care if it's Belgium's B Team or Serbia with Boskovic, but the difference between the 2 is that USA swept today and would've been killed by Serbia's A team given how they played today. |

It’s not fun rooting against Brazil anymore. They’re weak sauce now, more so without a healthy Natalia. That could be true, but I'm not counting my chickens yet. Though, if all goes to plan this summer, Brazil's record at the last 3 major tournaments will a QF loss in Rio, not even finishing Top 6 in the World Championship, and possibly a quarterfinal loss in Tokyo. How the mighty have Fallen. |
