China has done poorly in pool play only to turn it on in the medal rounds That was certainly the case in 2016. The same can be said for Brazil in 2012, the then defending champions looked out-of-their-depths during the preliminary stages before suddenly getting their act together in the elimination round to win a back-to-back Olympic Gold. Wonder if this is the Olympic pattern to the eventual gold medalist, hahaha.

If this is true, I don't think China will be able to even advance to the quarters. I predict them to lose to the US and Italy in straights, 5 sets or maybe 4 to ROC. China is washed up this time.

No, that doesn't explain China's collapse.

Chinese fans in the European forum said it was mental games and a way for JLP to deal with the media this loss got viral in China (and Turkey) Also yea the issue today was greater than just Zhu.

I wouldn't make such huge assumptions after 1 game.

Not JLP trolling the Olympics again. LOL Well if it works and China wins gold eventually, then who can blame her?

Ebrar and a few other players have improved a lot over the past two years. China is mostly still using the same players from the last Olympic quad. Yes, today's problem was greater than just Zhu, basically nothing worked, and Zhu not being 100% surely put a lot more pressure on the rest of the team. Of course it could all be smoke screen from JLP but I seriously doubt she could put together another fairytale run at the OG.

I really am hoping that the USA just had a bad night. Right now Italy and clearly Turkey look like the best teams in the pool. I know the USA played bad today, I just hope they can at least be competitive in the coming games. Playing like they did today, ain't gonna cut it. Experience shows at the olympics. Especially at key positions like setter.. 🤷🏼♂️
How do you explain China's loss with Ding Xia, and Turkey's win with Ozbay?
Is Italy's Malinov now your favorite?

Heck, maybe Turkey is now the favorite to win gold now. Sounds crazy, but after today's result, you never know they just might.
