Wow, the Djokovic haters (read: salty Federer and Nadal fans) are out in force on Twitter, lol. At any rate, Djokovic is widely regarded as one of the mentally toughest athletes ever, up there with Michael Jordan. But I suppose anything is possible. He just needs to focus on the US Open. If he wins that (or really, even if he doesn't), nobody is really going to remember the Olympics, which is at best a distant fifth in terms of important tournaments. I was actually pulling for him to complete to golden slam, and still definitely the Grand Slam...what he is doing is incredible to witness, and tennis fans should embrace it...my statement is a simple one...he pulls out of a medal match for a left shoulder injury - which didn't seem to play a factor in yesterday or today's losses from what we could see...will he receive the same criticism (unjustly I might add) the Biles has received for "quitting" on her team? I'm hoping Djokovic recovers from this...not expecting him to play anything leading up to the US open at this point, so he will have a month to get physically and mentally repaired... He's getting plenty of criticism from what I've seen. Even as a Djokovic fan, I can't say all of it is unfair. I do think it's pretty comical that the Federer fans are now saying that Djokovic breaking a racket means he's not the GOAT anymore. As if he's the only player to ever break a racket. Not that I'm excusing it. Breaking a racket is never a good look for a tennis player. But it has no bearing on a player's athletic achievements.
