Eh, I don't know about "wrong." Lists are inherently subjective of course. These are professional soccer writers, so I think they would have some idea of what they're talking about. Judging by what I saw on Reddit, Miedema and Kerr were the ones I saw mentioned most often as best in the world. Though of course, a player like Harder wouldn't be talked about as much during the Olympics because Denmark wasn't among the teams playing. I was just curious at the earlier suggestion from someone that Ertz was the best player in the world, as I don't think I saw a single other person say that on Reddit. But I have spent a grand total of zero seconds of my life watching women's club soccer (I don't watch men's club soccer either), so I have no opinion from firsthand knowledge.I'm genuinely confused about what you're trying to do here, given the bold. Trying to challenge an opinion I gave using 2 subjective lists and Reddit? When you admittedly don't know anything about the sport? We can't even have a discussion about those lists (which I'm familiar with and stand by my position), since again, you have zero context. I think you're being a bit defensive that not everyone has the same opinion as you. It was just something I was curious about.

Is Tokyo the last hurrah for players like Rapinoe, Lloyd, and Morgan etc.? Or are they planning on going to the 2023 WC/2024 Olympics? I don't follow women's soccer as much, so just curious as to what their plans were It should be their last hurrah, if you can call it a hurrah. I seriously doubt that the players you mentioned will have the ability to contribute at all by the time the next WC/Olympics roll around. It's a short cycle, as we are already in 2021. The time to rebuild the team is now. I hope we have done a decent job of developing younger players; otherwise, the USWNT might become Cuba's volleyball program.

are you suggesting that the NCAA bans foreigners (and/or individuals who can claim dual citizenship or whatever the qualification is to compete for other national teams) from competing in US collegiate athletics? My opinion is probably similar. I wouldn't propose a ban on foreigners, but I would be in favor of a limit on the amount of scholarships that can go to foreign students. This wouldn't be out of line with the rules for sports in many other countries. Many foreign pro leagues have limits on the number of foreign players. Don't know if these limits also apply to their "amateur" development teams, but I suspect they do officially or unofficially. should it be taken even further: limit how many out-of-state players a collegiate team can have on scholarship?

I'm quite aware people have different opinions than I do (I already acknowledged I'm familiar with these lists). It's just strange because you don't have a different opinion than I do, because you admittedly don’t know much about the sport. And there's really no point in engaging with the different opinions you offered, because you won't be able to have an informed conversation about them. Idk, if there was a conversation about rugby (a sport I know nothing about) and poster A, in passing, was like "Joe is the best player in the world," I'm not sure I would ever go look up lists just to be like "well, these two lists say Henry or Gary are the best players in the world, and Reddit doesn't discuss Joe as the best player in the world" to suggest (I guess?) that poster A is wrong? But to each their own, I suppose.

However, your post did make me wonder which player or players are generally considered the best in the world out of curiosity. So I looked into it. That's it. I'm not responding again.

But happy to end this conversation, and instead engage with posters who won’t rely on appeals to authority to (kind of) make points.

Interesting, there's a stark contrast between the soccer team and the volleyball team. We hold onto the vets on the volleyball team (Larson, Akinradewo) because we need them. I don't think the same is true for soccer -- perhaps some people think we need Rapinoe and co., but that's just from a publicity standpoint. The players we need (Dunn, Ertz, S. Mewis, Lavelle, Horan, Davidson) are of prime age -- they just aren't as flashy. Not seeing your argument here, as all of the "players we need" (in bold) were on the team.
And I don't know that I'd be going to bat for Davidson. She conceded the game-deciding penalty against Canada and committed another horrid mistake that led directly to a goal against Australia.
It's funny how all the people calling for the older players to be canned don't want to talk about the 22-year-old who made two mistakes handing goals on a platter to the opponent.

Sweden and Canada are tied at 1-1 late in the second half. Blackstinius scored in the 34th minutes for Sweden, and Canada got the equalizer on a penalty kick by Fleming in the 67th minute. Neither Sweden nor Canada have ever won gold in the Olympics, so this will be a first for one of them.
