Plummer might have terminated better but likely would have been abused on serve receive.

Damn so many of you talk so badly about these athletes that have more talent in their little finger then what you have in your whole body. Saying any athlete sucks that is on this roster is ludicrous. It’s pool play and they had a bad match. Hopefully this fires them up to regroup. 100 percent truth. We lost a match, it's not the end of the world and we WILL recover. The mentality of posters wanting to fire KK and saying she's bad or she's the worst, is juvenile thinking. We have to support this team in good and bad times. One mistake and you guys fly off the handle like a child and say get rid of them. Perfection and always winning is a good thing, but it's not sustainable. Are ya'll this hard on yourselves when you don't get something right? This has been ongoing for years. Context is important as is the ability to understand the game at more than a casual level. While some on here do not have that knowledge, many of us do.

Amanda Knox has a great article on "The Atlantic" that many here need to read. Go check it out. "All of this has made me extremely skeptical of those who easily pass judgment. It has made me allergic to the impulse to flatten others into cardboard, to erase their human complexity, to rage against things about which I know only a snippet. Judgment only gets in the way of understanding. Refraining from judgment has become a way of life for me. Call it radical empathy, or extreme benefit of the doubt. I know how wrong people were about me, and I don’t ever want to be that wrong about another person. The world is not filled with monsters and heroes; it’s filled with people, and people are extraordinarily complex." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/07/amanda-knox-stillwater-matt-damon/619628/

My overall impression of the match was that the entire team allowed the moment to get to them. Every element of their game dropped off several levels.
All the skills that have gotten the USA to a great start to the tournament were being performed better by the Russians. The most obvious were serving and receiving.

It's better that this beatdown happened now than in the knockouts, but without JT I don't think USA gets past the QF's.

I think that's the concern when JT is the best terminal hitter and she's being relied on to score points. It shouldn't be that case in the first place, imo, especially now that she's injured.

While this match was hard to watch, I would rather the team get kicked in the gut here than during the knock out rounds. JT will be back but will she be at the level she was early in the tournament? We will have to see.

We knew her serve was only effective against crappy teams.. a wasted spot. Crappy teams like Wisconsin in the national championship match? Crappy teams like her professional league teams?

Who cares if Cheesehad Jesus believed that she was born for this moment? Delusions of grandeur do not a gold medal setter make. It was so predictable that all the Cheesehead Jesus disciples would flood this thread after the Russia beatdown, but does anyone really believe Cheesehead Jesus would have made a difference in this match? You dolt. Nothing to do with Carlini. The team was AWFUL in every phase but defense, and only JWO stood out in that regard. I have never seen the U.S. completely unable to terminate. Poulter can't block and was used like a tissue. We knew Dress couldn't block so there's that as well. I'm not sure why Hill is being iced because Robinson might be the worst terminating outside as this level. That was my point. Cheesehead Jesus couldn't have possibly made a difference in this match.
