Emotions aside, most critiques of the US roster were valid and pretty much all of them were vindicated in this game. I would have liked poulter to try to establish Drews more when she had to come in, it was almost like she wanted to give her a chance to get warm but really needed to get her going. With JT being the majority of their offense, it put way too much pressure on the left sides and everything broke down. ROC was touching absolutely EVERYTHING with their block. Neither were having a ton of success but JT seems to have a higher contact point than Drews who just kind of tries to bully the block with her power. Poulter seems unflappable but struggling to replicate her recent levels of success (which have been super impressive).
I felt for Carlini when she wasn’t selected to the main roster but believed that the reason US medals or not won’t be because of the setter. There are other factors and again all of them got exposed last night. I don’t know if carlini would have made a difference in the outcome of this match, it just would have been nice to watch her try. Middle connection would have been about the same (lol), maybe connection with drews would have been better, improvement in blocking and defense. Tough situation all around, I hope JT and team are recovering.

R.I.P. also waiting on you to change your name 👀 time flies.. this is the match I was thinking of This is the match Berg took the starting spot from Glass and never looked back. I didn't mind this loss as much as the loss to Japan a day later for Bronze. USA apparently loved that experience so much they came back the next year and lost gold at WCup by also losing their last match to Japan.

to be fair idk what's up with Poulter. She's really talented but Tokyo has been a pretty brutal showing for her. I'll always have love for her, but I never thought this was her time. Even in VNL, she wasn't close to who I think she can be in the future. I think back-up would've done her well so she could see things. Thrusting her into this "we win or lose on your shoulders (hands) only because we didn't bring someone we can trust to replace you in a 5-1" this soon was a huge mistake. 💯

MBH is washed and cant jump. fine, if not courtney, then plummer is my pick. i wouldnt consider any of the current US outsides at tokyo terminal. Yeah. VNL MVP. You have demonstrated you know nothing.

Question, if someone told you ten days ago we’d be 3-1 with matches against China, Russia and Turkey would you have taken it? Expected to be 4-0?

I don’t know a USA fan that would have expected to be 4-0 at this point. Hoped? Yes. Expected? I think 3-1 is in line with expectations and yes, ANYONE should take that. Now, when you include that USA scored just 51 points against Russia, that 3-1 is much much more concerning rather than simply being content with results so far. The only thing that matters is USA is into the Quarterfinals. Anything can happen now.

Before China turned out to be a flop, I think almost every fan would’ve taken a 3-1 record. But since China flopped and has losses to both Turkey and Russia, the US is in a position to possibly finish 4th. Before the Olympics started, I’m sure most would’ve thought a 3-2 record would get the US third in the pool

The NBC highlight has Kevin Barnett commenting on it. Is there a way to watch the whole game with him commenting? Im kinda tired listening to the british guy. I need some drama

You conveniently left out the details of nearly blowing a 2-0 lead to Turkey (barely scraping by), then show up the next match and look like a JV team. We beat an absolutely hobbled China? yay. Better than a loss for sure, but I'm not chilling the Veuve. I still don't understand all of these comments. We react during the match and then take stock of the trajectory. As of right now, the USA is trending down - I'd love to hear any argument otherwise. Can they right the ship tonight? Of course they can, can they still win gold? Yup, and everyone in this thread hopes they do, but enough with "why can't you all just be happy we won?" or "what did you expect? TOTAL PERFECTION?" comments. Let me ask you this: has the setting improved over the course of the tournament? The LS offense? Passing? Blocking? or have all of those aspects gotten worse from what we've seen so far? You don't really need stats to answer that question, just a functioning pair of eyeballs.

Those of us that haven't drunk the Karch Kool-Aid know what's really going on. It's sad really. The best 12 players in the gym are not on this roster. My expectations were pretty mediocre and the team really hasn't even met that expectation yet. We got lucky China didn't show up. The USA men were not so fortunate and are now out of the tournament.

Don’t lump us all in with your take, not even close to all of as see it that way. If this group has been sub mediocre, you need to do some re-evaluating
