Olympics.com indicates that China is still in contention to make the QFs. Either they made a mistake or wasn't informed of how teams qualify for the elimination round. Or did we all made a mathematical mistake in calculating points?

Or did we all made a mathematical mistake in calculating points? China lead Italy in last action of Day 8 Defending Olympic champions China need a win to avoid being eliminated from the women's volleyball competition, and are currently two sets up against pool B leaders Italy. This final set has been tight, however, but two hitting errors from Italy now give China a match point at 25-24. And a third error from Italy! China stay alive in the competition, though they need a win in their final game against Argentina, currently bottom of pool B, plus other results to go their way in order to progress. The final round of the women's preliminary games are scheduled for Monday 2 August.

Yeah I think they made a mistake there....or are we all wrong here in adding points for qualification to the next round?

Wait, I'm confused. I thought China was out regardless of the outcome of this match. Is that not the case?

In 20/20 hindsight, Sunderland had said that Zhu Ting has been having problems with her hand for 18 months and JLP had said that she would have told her to have the surgery and be ready for 2021, instead she was preparing to play in 2020.
Looking at the way the young Chinese team played in the Italy match and the way the young lefty LS played throughout the tournament, maybe it would have been better to have sat Zhu Ting earlier in pool play to salvage a chance to make it into the brackets.
Of course I am basing it on a single match performance, who knows how the youngsters would have reacted. One thing I noticed was the joy that was on the faces of the Chinese players faces, nothing like playing with no pressure on.
Not questioning JLP, just thinking about an interesting what-if.
