Karch needs to keep whoever starts on a short leash and pull them if the team isn't winning. Period. We shall see if he brought the best 12 players. This will be all on him. It always falls back on the coaches. I know some of ya'll support him and that is fine, but many of us have our doubts and we will see who was correct after today. Though, to be fair, I think that if both teams play to their ceilings, Serbia will win. We just do not have a hitter of Bośković's caliber yet. Thompson should get there, but in time. Can we just put Karch on a leash?

Our gameplan against Egonu was to block angle, give her line and trust that she would make enough errors to keep us in the match. I don't think that will work against Boskovic. I don't know enough about Serbia to know how the team should game plan for her. If you were the coach, how would you try to limit Boskovic? I would pray for an ankle injury.

Please delete this and I’ll delete my response. If the only way you can win is by hoping for injury to the other teams best player you don’t deserve to win

I am no fan of Serbia, but I don't think it's okay to even joke about praying for an ankle injury.

I don't wish injury on any player. But I didn't take that post seriously in that he actually meant what he was saying. Just a joke that said there is no way to stop Boskovic unless she injures herself. My take on it all.

I just couldn’t disagree with you more. This match will be 98% of how players perform. Coaches get too much credit and too much blame at this level. I’d say overall he’s done a nice job of putting them into position to win, and they’ll get it done or they won’t. Serbia will of course have a large say in this as well. With the exception of an OH and back up setter, the selection of this team was a no brainer. The second setter chosen has done a terrific job and the last OH is a non factor.

Yes, players have to play. But coaches dictate who plays. If Foluke isn't getting it done on the court, does Karch leave her in the game knowing she's a liability? Or does he sub in Chi? Or maybe MBH is having a horrible match, does he sub in KRob? Or Hill? Coaches decisions on when and who to sub is extremely important over the course of a match. Too soon, too late. And that's just subs. Not even talking about game plans... Serving, blocking, defense, etc.

So what is the balance of what dictates outcomes more player to coach IN A MATCH? Is it 70% player/30% coach? The impact a coach will have on this match was overwhelmingly what they did up to this point and less what happens after the first whistle. Outside of a bonehead move, it’s the players who will have the say in who moves on.

You keep ignoring the point: coaches submit lineups and make subs, not players. That's what's being discussed.
