Thailand is between Bulgaria and Colombia, and Kazakhstan is right after Czechia, so European complaints are again unjustified as usual (if say China and Japan go to AVC and qualify from there, the next two would include Thai/Kaz anyways). The problem is that we should see Greece/Czech Republic/Croatia/Mexico/Slovenia/Thailand/Kazakhstan competing against each other for one of those last spots. I think Thailand would have a good chance to make it out of a grouping like that for example, but there's no way in hell that Kazakhstan would. yeah they should have qualified top 11 on ranking and then have qualifying tournaments for the 2 spots for each of the 5 continents.
but then they can't use continental champs as qualification tournaments, and that's more money lol

yes but would EuroVolley affect international ranking? I don't think so, only the continental ranking right? continental championships are part of the FIVB rankings. They have a "35" weight. (VNL is 40, WCH 45, OG 50) oh wow that's a lot.
anyways the problem with the new ranking is that you can protect it by not playing

What are some of the up-and-coming USA players that people want to see get a shot at this roster? Will the USA send a different roster to the Pan-Am-Cup than the NORCECA Championship?

The Euro teams are *not* going to be happy AVC is getting a free pass into the WCH. Depending on rankings (and what Thailand does), there could be 6 AVC reps (China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, AVC1, AVC2) I ran the scenarios and I think the top 21 teams are going to be in regardless of how the continental qualifiers shake out. I ran it several different times and even with the three top AVC teams sitting out, Canada, Puerto Rico, Dominicana and USA should all make the cut. CSV will get three: BRA, ARG and COL. CAVB will only get two. CEV will get the rest, which is 10 (ITA,TUR,RUS,GER,BEL,BUL and CZE) plus SRB and the two co-hosts NED and POL. Greece, Slovak Republic and Croatia will need to over perform in the Euros in order to nab those lower two spots from BUL and CZE. The other CEV teams are safe.

I mean, I get not wanting to expose your team to Covid and to keep them healthy but teams lower than the CAVB teams should NOT be in the World Championships. Period. Once again, the FIVB is shooting itself in the foot by not making the qualifiers mandatory for participation in the WCH's. Send the E and F teams for all I care, but show up.

As long as Thailand shows up, it will be them and Kazakhstan, who are in the top 24 ranked teams anyways.
I'm also not sure that some of these bubble European teams are that much better than these lower AVC teams. It's basically a wash at that point. All of the best teams will be there. The rest are just going to be pool play fodder anyways.

I'm also curious what this will look like. Since the USA doesn't need a win here to qualify, being 1st in the world, I doubt we even see any of the Olympians. S: Carlini, Lilley OH: Kingdon, SWP, Plummer, Courtney OPP: Cuttino, ? MB: Dixon, Tapp, ?, ? L: Hentz, ? Hmmmm? We won't see any NCAA athletes since their season will have started by then.

The Pan Am team won’t have any NCAA or pro players (they won’t get released)
It’ll be comprised of whoever they can get from AU lol

Top 21 means that there are 3 teams from outside of that who will be included. Two teams from Africa and... I'm struggling to come up with the 3rd. Thailand and Kazakhstan are both in the top 21. Wouldn't #22 in the world rankings be the last team in then?

I don't even think it's covid. China and Korea both have important domestic competitions right after (national games and KOVO cup)

Interesting notes about Mexico. Their organization is finally (attempting) to take Volleyball serious and want to make a run for the next olympics I guess. This is the first summer in a long time where they’ve held training camps with their national team players (including Bricio.) Normally they get the team together a week before an event and hope for the best lmao.
They’ve hired a new Brazilian head coach, who used to be an assistant coach at Colombia I believe. Most recently they played multiple friendlies with Colombia and even managed to beat Colombia’s mostly A team twice, and that was without Rangel (she’s playing in PR at the moment.)
The coach moved a lot of players around (using their taller Middles as opposites or outsides), even had their main setter playing Opposite for most of it. He also recognizes a lot of Mexico’s future (hell, current) stars are currently in the NCAA, so is trying to build the rest of the roster up for cases without them.
It’ll be interesting to see what progress they make.

Is Landeros still the starting libero? I thought she had some potential.

Urias is there http://instagram.com/p/CRnWnQ9sDoH

Doubtful for Ung, Parra, or Maldonado at that. Parra and Maldonado weren’t at the training camp and Ung only showed up towards the end. Ung played few sets at setter (and was used as Opp some), mostly due to her short time training with the hitters. The coach likely knows they won’t be available for some events and is allowing the playing time for the players who will. I’m surprised he didn’t involve Parra or Maldonado some, still. They fill the roles Mexico lacks. Landeros is mostly a lock. The few games I watched she looked WAY better than the other two liberos. The biggest surprise was how much more they utilized the middles. Mexico tends to be Bricio dependent, but this new coach had the setters pushing the middle a ton so you no longer heard Bricio’s name as often lol. Not sure how much Rangel not being there affected this too.

AVC postponed theirs until October.
I still don't think China or Korea will join. It overlaps with Japan's league now.
The tweet I saw said if they can't get 6 teams, the championship won't go through... Wonder what FIVB does then. (just give the AVC spots to China/Japan?) That would help NORCECA
