Hard to get a good read on him but his system was impeccable OG playoffs

I don’t hate or love Karch. Some of his mannerisms, drive me nuts. But he seems very dedicated and him crying at that interview gave me all sorts of feels. Do his kids play volleyball? They did - in fact Karch started his coaching career with them at the high school level....there team was horrible...

Karch was already the greatest volleyball person of all time before he started coaching the women's national team...I don't think his accomplishments from the collegiate-level, national team, beach, and now coaching will ever be matched...there might be better coaches, there might be a better beach player, there might be a better indoor player...but there won't be one that will ever come close to having the success he has had in all aspects of the game... I looked through KK's accomplishments after seeing some comments that JLP is the greatest having played on and coached a Gold medal Olympic team, so I thought the Olympics was the standards. But I do agree with what you wrote about KK. It may be some time before another person can achieve as much as Karch did in all aspects of the game. Still can't get over how Karch looks like a grandpa now. Kind of depressing realizing how old I'm getting.

I'm just happy that when the time came for Karch to make the decision between Kim Hill and SWP or maybe it would have been k Rob and SWP that he took in consideration Kim Hills contribution to the 2014 WC gold medal and also her stellar play in the bronze match in Rio and showed some loyalty there but most of all that he took time to talk to his two senior players Larson and Foluke to get a read on what their reaction was. It would have been a big miss for Kim Hill not to be part of this celebration after her contributions for the last 8 years.

He should be in charge through Paris no doubt, unless something drastic happens. At the same time, I have the same response I've always had when watching him on the sidelines, in interviews, etc. He does not look or act like a coach/true leader. I've never seen anything like it, that is, having success and so not looking the part. I continue to be skeptical, but you've got to give him his props.

What does a coach/true leader look like? david38 -- it seems you have been conditioned into thinking image is everything and that you must look the part or you're no good. Humans come in all different colours, shapes, sizes, and attitudes and if you get stuck at shape and beauty, you miss so much of the person. Karch committed himself to this Team and put his heart and soul into it. People are who they are b/c of their actions, not what they look like.

From Terry Pettits Twitter
“While we focused on the USA winning gold came this: Karch Kiraly had surgery for colon cancer and no one knew it. Something like that changes a person, makes us more vulnerable, increases our sensitivity to everything around us. It can make a great coach, an even better coach.”

You’re pure 🗑 I did not read it that way. Autism is a trait, not good or bad. Same as ADD, or OCD or many others. And where to put imperious perfectionism? Has its advantages and disadvantages depending on situation just like every other trait, and depending upon where on the spectrum it lies. It looks to me that you put a value judgement on that word while assuming Kokyu did as well, where I don't see Kokyu did.

Apologies need to be made to Micha Hancock as well. She did a phenomenal job when JP was out of commission temporarily. Nope. Not doing it. She was fine. She is neither Poulter or Carlini.
