I like Vegas and before we had kids, I used to go there a few times a year. My biggest fear with Vegas is the amount of walking that is required to get anywhere. Volleyball is hard on the knees/legs and the last thing my kids want to do after a game is walk another mile through 3 different hotels just to get back to their room.

Well a kid has not walked at a BJNC in the last 3 or 4 years says scooters became a thing. In all seriousness it will be a huge factor on how well USAV works with the City of Vegas. From what I heard the light rail worked well for the girls but did not start running early enough for teams with the morning wave. Hopefully that will help with moving kids and families around the city.
Any city where we can avoid parents having to rent cars is a plus. I am sure anyone who was in Kansas City has a much different opinion of the week based on if they were downtown or had to drive in daily.
Vegas is built for large amounts of people. Trying to get service at a restaurant in Kansas City was an entire evening. They even told you when you walked in its going to be a while FYI. Obviously many factors but Vegas is a town built on getting people in and out as quickly as possible for food etc.
There is also enough stuff for players and parents to do besides sitting in a casino now in Vegas that it should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Maybe this is a dumb idea, can they somehow make a deal with the closest/cheapest hotel next to the venue and all the teams stay in the same hotel? So you get a group discount since some teams can't afford as good as hotels as others so this helps them, and it just makes logistics so much easier.

True, there are shady places but I was thinking more of a higher end hotel, even the best hotel room rates for weekdays are cheap, weekends get out of hand obviously. Plus if every team stayed there that is hundreds of rooms to leverage, maybe just wishful thinking.

I think they provide kickbacks and free rooms for officials and maybe cheaper rates for leasing the court space in return for mandating all the families book specific hotels at the "special rate". Without stay and play the clubs can negotiate rates based on group discounts. Some of the larger boys clubs are traveling 10+ teams which over a hundred rooms with just one club.

Confirmed- Las Vegas will host 2022 BJNC. Yup. Not going. Neither are any of the SCVA programs. On the recent Balboa Bay zoom call with prospective parents, Travis Turner stated at least 9 clubs who "founded" the Socal Cup last season have pledged to stick together, and attend AAU exclusively. From memory, BBVBC, 949, SCVC, MB Surf, Rockstar, Pinnacle, Legacy, Wave, and another (sorry cannot recall! OCVC...or maybe Pulse?) will all forgo both the USAV qualifier in January, and the USAV BJNC in Vegas next Summer. The reason is not USAV, but SCVA entirely. While the schedules work today, parents were told the inflexibility / lack of helpfulness of SCVA in the eyes of the club directors led the collective 9 to this decision. He also mentioned several of the Midwest / East clubs have indicated they will also attend AAU in Florida. My boy will play for one of the clubs listed, and thus we are AAU bound. Hoping the top level teams all do the same. I speculate the Top teams will indeed attend AAU in Florida, and USAV OPEN division will become kind of equivalent to the USA division today. This season is critical for AAU if they want to keep the boys. No mistakes!

SCVA moved their boys qualifier again? Not sure if SCVA is working hard to make Club directors life easier or harder.

Region Commissioners received an email from the USA Volleyball office yesterday. They are still working on some contractual things with the facility/hotels so a formal announcement cannot be shared yet, but said it will be taking place in Las Vegas during the usual time frame (end of June/early July).

The only missing piece at this point is the date for AAU. If AAU really wants to make a power move on the boys side, they'll schedule their Boys Nationals for the end of June/first of July as well. If they don't, odds are good that our club will be at both.

This season is critical for AAU if they want to keep the boys. No mistakes! I am very disappointed by the way the Clubs in the SCVA are handling this, as a player I can tell you right now I really don’t care about winning an AAU championship, it means nothing to me. Simply because good clubs in the scva are not willing to suck it up, other good clubs are being forced into attending aau Hey, I get what you are saying. As a director however, you will hopefully understand the importance of good quality customer service. As a coach I have been part of the AAU girls nationals and the USAV Boys and will tell you that AAU girls has a more national feel than USAV. The competition is more fierce, there is less room for failure, and it is a premier location and convention center. The other part of the conversation is what makes a national championship a championship? To me its competing and beating the best teams in the country. If that means the best teams are at AAU then that is what it means. AAU runs a great event. It means nothing to you because you have not been part of that event yet. Just wait, you will have a positive experience.
