Babson is bringing back third team AA Allie Puccio and adding a grad transfer Julia Palomba who averaged 4 pts/set in 2019. They are looking like the best team in New England on paper. Saw Babson last weekend and they are BIG, talented and well coached. Curious about the top of NESCAC (Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Tufts and two years of new coaches and recruiting with lots of others fighting to prove it) and NEWMAC (MIT, Springfield, Wellesley, Wheaton,Emerson??)

as a NY region follower, the three scores I'm most interested in on opening night:
Cortland at Ithaca - one of D3's most intense football rivalries leads off VB season (re-match in Cortland later this fall)
Geneseo at St. John Fisher - SUNYAC title hopeful at Empire 8 juggernaut. SJF's Steigerwald trying to become first 4-time E8 Player of the Year.
Bard at Drew - first match in Drew program history. Tabula rasa for Bard with only 2 veterans, 1 of which rarely plays. Is this the beginning of a roster that might eventually win a Liberty League match for the first time since they joined the conference in 2011?

The last time I streamed an Otterbein @ Wittenberg game, the announcer was this really stoned lacrosse player who was clearly watching VB for the first time in his life.
Hilarity ensued.

I have connections at Alfred who has been making slow strides moving up in the Empire 8 conference He says if healthy they are the best team they have had in quite a while and could beat everyone else in conference and give SJF a run for money. They are not at full strength already and play RIT tonight

Alfred coach came from New Paltz so she knows what winning looks like. Hard to recruit to that school but football and softball have shown it's not impossible.

St. John Fisher outlasts Ithaca 3-2 in a nail biter (33-31, 25-12, 26-28, 21-25, 15-13), good win. Ithaca's match against #12 Juniata becomes more meaningful tonight, a win for either program being a good testament of strength in the East.
Hope sweeps St. Olaf, and many more games we're tracking on our end.

Juniata takes set 1 over Ithaca, 25-11 watched sets 2 and 3. Juniata 25-15 as Ithaca was not good. Juniata relaxed and set 3 was sloppy as both teams took turns losing points. Ithaca took it 25-21.

How do we know how good a team is going to be when they and 90% of their schedule didn't play last year? Rosters are going up daily. Matches start this week. Things will sort themselves out soon enough but there is a good reason like 20% of D3 is receiving votes right now. Nobody knows anything yet. Muskingum lost to Mt. St. Joes - Pablo difference of -208 Johnson and Wales lost to Clark - Pablo diff of -215 Birmingham Souther lost to Covenanat - Pablo diff of -283 15 other matches with a 3 digit pablo difference. #3 Calvin lost already #9 Chicago lost already #13 UT Dallas lost twice already #24 Susquehanna lost twice already And the aforementioned Ithaca lost already. And it isn't even the first Saturday yet. This season could be a wild one
