ATeam wins the bronze! 21-8!!, 21-17 That was a serving clinic they put on display. Literally served the Russians off the court forcing them into all kinds of weird setting and committing many errors. can't comment since the replay is still not listed on youtube... however, where was their serve in the semifinal? They may as well have walked the ball over and handed it to the to them to start the points.

Copyright issues continue to be the problem… ATeam’s serve today was on fire. Comparable to them serving the Australians off the court in Tokyo. Yesterday’s serve wasn’t. So that was a major difference. I’m guessing the weather in the semifinal might also have had an effect with the pouring rain. Russia also made a lot of errors today — hitting out or hitting into the net and April got decent digs behind Alix’s block. Lol I keep forgetting that this event was even a thing. Sucks to see MHPavs lost. Borger and Sude clearly had their best tournament together, because typically they’re a pretty average team.
MHPavs haven’t won an event all year and just haven’t seemed as good as they were before Covid. I was hoping this was the event that got them over their hump, but it just didn’t happen.

Crazy how Ateam went from being 0-2 after day 1, then proceed to get bronze

Crazy how Ateam went from being 0-2 after day 1, then proceed to get bronze I argue that Germany was impressive too. Went 2-2 in pool play and advanced by 3 points (according to the Swiss) and then went onto defeating Dudatha, Russia, and MHPavs. They were previously like 1-9 against those three teams combined.

I feel like the only way they split is if Sarah wants time off to start a family. When they’re at the top of their game they’re the best team in the world (over ATeam imho) and it would be incredibly short sighted for either of them to think they’d be better off with another partner. I think it may also depend on Heather Bansley. If Heather decides to take time off and Brandie calls Mel, does she say no or does she stay together with Sarah? If Brandie hasnt been calling Mel every 2 weeks all year already she is insane. Canada whips every top team in the event, then chokes to Germany. Wow!

Interesting. The only other team to take a set off MHPavs in this event was Slaes. They basically had no difficulty against the other teams until they reached Germany.

Didn’t see the gold match, and now it’s gone from YouTube, but any chance Mel’s shoulder injury slowed her down? I know she finished the semifinal match ok, but that was a nasty looking injury and sometimes these things tend to swell up more the day after. I’m still in awe that she was able to continue playing at all.

They’re taking down all the videos right after they finish… from what I saw, Mel wasn’t really the problem. Sarah Pavan didn’t get many blocks and she was making errors or getting blocked. In fact, Pavan hit the last ball out to give Germany the win. But Germany was really strong in the serving and blocking department today. They were just lights out today. The English commentary one is down but this other one is still available:

For the A-team to come back and get the Bronze, and for them to win both AVP's they entered AFTER the inevitable post-Olympic let-down, is really quite an amazing feat. Not sure how anyone could argue that, even when they are on, Pavan/Humana-Paredes are a better team. Kudos to Borger/Sude, and specifically to Sude, for outblocking the 6'5" Pavan 6 to 1.

The English commentary one is down but this other one is still available: Thanks. Neither Sarah nor Mel played particularly well. But Germany shot around Sarah’s block all match, perhaps knowing Mel was limited. Mel just didn’t run them down like she normally does. There were several shots to her left where she didn’t even try to reach. Mel was also aced twice and made two straight hitting errors when they were leading 18-17 in the second. I’m sure she wouldn’t admit her shoulder was bothering her, but when you see it heavily taped up like that and she has a subpar match (and again, Sarah did too), it’s hard to believe it didn’t affect her.

Conclusion: Canada in the semifinals and Canada in the finals looked like two different teams.
