Canada wins in a deuce second set. Melissa had many service errors but won on an ace. She also missed a few easy digs. As a team they were aced a bunch of times, NED were ripping tough serves into the seam and were causing problems.
The latent drama queen in me admits that Sarah/Melissa and Kelly/Sarah are the two teams I am most interested to watch play together here.

Slaes lost Set 1 against Joanouk but have the lead in Set 2.
ATeam lost 10-15 in tiebreak to Russia earlier this morning 😢 they have the German team later today (who lost to the other Swiss team) and would kinda need a win since only top 3 teams advance from each pool.

I didnt watch the second game but even though they won fairly easily in the first they didnt look like they were clicking much. Agree on Melissa, I thought Sarah looked ok, she usually does when teams want to swing, but not great, but Mel missed a bunch and had some really bad contacts

Three teams advance? Wow, the FIVB is really committed to the dumbest formats possible. Its two pools, people have been running events just like this since Plato and even then, it was two teams advance. Now the interest in Slaes' pool where one of Slaes, MHPavs or Dudatha was going home early turns out to not exist. Great, what a compelling event!

The format is pool winner A1 and B1 are automatically into the semifinals. A2 plays B3 and A3 plays B2 in the “quarterfinals” to get into the semifinals. Last time they had this format back in 2018, MHPavs had an early exit. As did Summer and Sara Hughes.

I agree that it lowers the stakes but I wouldn't be surprised if Joanouk upsets one of MHPavs and Dudatha, neither of whom are on peak form right now.

The Swiss team probably just served 5 aces in a span of 6 points. Looks like a breeze in the park for them vs Italy.

Alix' approach on the right side on that 11-9 point was just so awkward, which caused her to basically free ball it over.

ATeam just doesn't seem that fired up for this. If they drop this match I don't see how they aren't one of the 2 teams in the Pool that is eliminated early.
I'm wondering if they haven't both decided they simply want a year off before pursuing Paris, and didn't do a lot of prep for this "off season" tourney.
