Does USA retain its #1 ranking based on World Rankings? (Also, what happened to avid š¶?) I believe number 1 went to Brazil after the various continental championships but Iām not 100% sure.

US is #1 again - Brazil lost to Colombia 3-1 last night and fell to number two (Brazil still won gold due to tie-breakers). Colombia up to 16 now (from around 20-24 ish)

This same group of players has played all of the VNL, Olympics, and now the Continental championships.

How does brazil lose to Colombia? Thatās just silly. The result was remarkable for the Colombians, who will for the first time in their countryās history compete at the World Championship next year. The team has been coached by a Brazilian, Antonio Rizola, over the last four seasons. āDefeating Brazil, which is coming from winning silver at the Olympics, is huge, but the most important thing to me is to see our work paying off,ā Rizola said. āWe were the best team, we played at 120% and they didnāt get to 70% of their potential. But we did it because of our work and our dedication.ā

I assume Ze Roberto, Guidetti and Kiraly will stay at the helm of their programs. I hope Avital Selinger stays with the Dutch. They appear to be holding steady. The anticipation is killing me!! Can USAV just announce who the coaches will be? Of course I donāt mind Karch for another quad š He said on the Terry Pettit podcast that theyāre still negotiating. Sounded to me that heās indeed interested, but need to finalize on the contractual amount with USAV who went through some financial obstacles due to Covid.

Do we know which federations have signed coaches for the coming quad? Several can be assumed but which ones are official besides Mazzanti and TerziÄ? Japan, China and now Poland are up in the air. China will likely have their assistant coach An Jiajie become head of the NT. He's worked with Lang Ping for quite some time now and he knows this group of players the best. There were rumors that Feng Kun and Yang Hao (Athens 2004) will join as assistant coaches though it could be wishful thinking by the fans since Feng Kun is married to Thailand's former NT coach and they currently reside in Thailand with their child. Yes, but there are doubts about An's ability among Chinese fans and officials. The knives will be out against An if China does not perform well.

For me I want to see France since they are the Olympic hosts this quad and they played well in this years EuroVolley. Mexico or Croatia would have been more competitive than many of the teams from honestly, Korea downwards in the world rankings. I think Belgium and especially Bulgaria are trending up but they just need to keep grinding. They could surprise some of these mid tier teams. Belgium is returning after missing the 2018 tournament. Poland and the Czech Republic are back after missing out on the 2014 and 2018 tournaments. This is Colombia's debut. How exciting! Cuba, Trinidad&Tobago, Mexico and Azerbaijan failed to qualify for this edition after participating in 2018. Just some fun facts.

Hopefully they can qualify for Paris. They are taking the necessary steps to improve but qualifying for the WCH after just one small season of prep would have been a monumental feat. Bricio is still young and they have even younger talent breaking onto the team. With Abercrombie joining Puerto Rico and with Mexico and Canada trending up that bodes well for NORCECA's depth moving forward. Karch and co will have to choose rosters more carefully for the Pan-Am's and Continental tournaments moving forward if they want to keep winning tournaments. USA almost lost it's number one ranking after going 16-1 in the VNL and 7-1 in the Olympics. They then turned around and went 2-3 at the Continental Champs and then 5-2 at the Pan-Am Cup. Teams with depth really do have to manage it properly in order to avoid an unnecessary dip in the rankings with this new system the FIVB has implemented.

Now that we know the participants, lets see what the pools would look like if we seed the Dutch in Pool A and the Poles in Pool F
Pool A: (Could be and interesting outcome for top 3) Netherlands Germany Belgium Kenya
Pool B: (USA cake walk) USA Japan Korea Kazakhstan
Pool C: (Probably the toughest top to bottom but still not that hard for BRA/RUS) Brazil Russia Bulgaria Czech Republic
Pool D: (China cakewalk. Slugfest for 2nd/3rd between the others) China Dominicana Colombia Argentina
Pool E: (Predictable) Turkey Italy Puerto Rico Cameroon
Pool F: (Also Predictable, slightly tougher than E) Poland Serbia Canada Thailand
I dunno how the FIVB is going to seed the hosts. But this is what the first round pools could look like.
I'm sure the FIVB will release a detailed breakdown once we approach the drawing of lots, probably sometime in early 2022.
