Exactly why I say use her as a 6 rotation hitter. Why wait, when she can develop with on court experience? Having her practice to hone her craft won't do justice if she's not playing where she can see what she's up against and improve from there. Practice can only take you so far, and then you have to put it out there on the court in a real game. RAM needs to develop her and let her find her groove while out there. Right now, Leoniak is not ready to play all 6 rotations. Best thing to do with her is, bring her along slowly. Play her against teams like the one the Wahine just beat. When the Wahine take the 1st 2 sets then let her play the 3rd set, start there. grow from there first. That would allow her to have playing time. Maybe by Tournament time she may be ready to start and really contribute. What makes you think she's not ready? She's coming from International experience. Sure she'll be starting from scratch again with new opponents, but you can't baby a player with that kind of experience and expect her to grow from that. Her International experience is the exposure that top level athletes in this country get, so she should know how to respond. The more reps she gets, the better her game improves.

Just watch her approach to hitting a set. The timing and footwork, is off most of the time, and it is not mostly the setter's fault. I am thinking she was 6'0, or a little under that before she entered high school. Now she is what 6'3 or 4, that is a lot of inches. It would definitely impact her approach and timing. You cannot just throw her in there to get experience. If you do that, the experience she may get could be negative ones. Plus, it could impact the team in a negative way. So I feel, bring her along slowly, like I have mentioned. Hopefully, she will reach her stride by Tournament time.

It's never the setter's fault, but Leo as a hitter will learn to adjust to this and the best way to do so is in live matches. You don't want to do this in practice because you're playing the same group of girls in practice, where as playing live matches, you're up against what you will be playing in real time so you know what to expect in the moment and can adjust then and there. Whether this impacts the team in a negative way, she we'll be getting valuable experience that could be useful come tourney time (if Hawaii makes it). Plus you'd never know if it will be a negative experience for her if you don't let her try, and keep trying. Also, I'd rather she learn now, even if Hawai'i loses in season play, then in the tourney and they lose there without her even trying.
