Some random notes:
Mac May is just a joy to watch. I love her pre-serve routine of spinning the ball on her right index finger, casually flipping it to her left hand, and launching a devastating serve. Not sure I've seen a pre-serve routine as compelling since Samantha Bricio. And what a high flyer May is in the front row! Just pounding some line shots and taking crazy thumbs down angles against a good block.
Not sure how the absence of Luper affected UCLA, but Endsley's absence definitely affected the Huskies. I don't know if UW would have won either of the first two sets with Endsley since they were hitting well but passing and serving lousy, but I am confident they would have won the fourth and fifth sets more decisively with a healthy Endsley.
I still don't know what Cook was challenging in the fifth set -- center line violation? -- but it was a brilliant challenge and helped change the course of the set and the match. Keegan is very, very good at making challenges.

Watching the film now. If Luper plays UCLA win. Sanders and Hoffman look the best I've seen them this fall. Sanders is one of the most underrated players in the Pac.

Last night was a real positive for UW. They could have easily folded, but as we have learned this is not this teams way. Not sure why, but it seems that UW coaches are finally figuring out who should play where and the complete strategy that should be used….although I think that should have been accomplished during a weak preseason. When Endsley returns, they will be even better with a very terminal player front row in a rough rotation. That aside….this is very valuable experience for Bush’s development. I just dont want to lose matches to get that experience…we got away with it last night. I love Crenshaw at DS and Bays at Libero. Bays has natural instincts and is quicker…she made some unreal digs and saves last night! Crenshaw has ability out of the pipe and provides an option out of the back row that no other DS on the roster gives you. Reminds me of what Nebraska has had with some of their better teams in the past…an attacking DS! I find it interesting that the Endsley appreciation level is only high when she doesn’t play…she did lead the team pin hitters in percemtage during the final four run. Lastly, EMP is the key…when she is good…like last night…UW is a threat. When she is not…all the pin hitters hit low numbers and High Error. If you go back and look at the preseason, Utah and Wa St…that has been the case. Very Happy thats is turning around.
Now here comes a hot and confident USC team…lets not have a let down…frankly we cant afford it!

Why is Emily Ryan benched? Based on the stats, Alupei and Dudson aren't that much better than Ryan.
2020 Ryan 1.6 k/s, hitting .316, 1.25 blk/s
2021 Ryan 1.4 k/s, hitting .327, 1.06 blk/s
2021 Dudson 1.62 k/s, hitting .294, 1.16blk/s
2021 Alupei 1.22 k/s, hitting .337, 1.14 blk/s

Yes, I was just up from the right of their bench and there was no sign of her. I was hoping someone would know if it was maybe a quarantine issue, serious injury or some other emergency. |

Yeah injury they are usually there just not dressed out. Could be a covid or contact tracing thing, they don’t let them on the bench then. Or just an ordinary contagious illness they don’t want the team to catch, like a stomach bug. |
