Wow, nice sweep by Vibo over Verona. Nice defense and serving from Vibo, plus some flashy plays by Nishida. Thought Fromm was solid too, and Saitta managed the game well.

Lots of vb today!
Trentino 3-0 Taranto Wasn't able to catch this match, but looks like Trentino won with ease. Only 5 total hitting errors and a solid serve/pass game.
Vibo 3-0 Verona Probably one of Nishida's best games, with 14 kills, 3 aces, and 2 blocks. 6 errors on serve tho but not that bad. Fromm had a good match and Mauricio contributed nicely especially in receive. Magalini and Qafarena struggled in this one, and Mozic was contained nicely I thought.
Perugia 3-2 Modena A really close and entertaining match, but Perugia was able to finish when it mattered. Over the course of the match, Perugia won the serve-pass battle, but Modena was good enough to keep it close. Some good offense from both teams as well. Ngapeth, Leal, Nimir each had 20 kills+. Perugia was a little more balanced with Sole contributing nicely, but mainly leaned on Leon and Anderson.
Lube 3-0 Ravenna Unfortunately, did not watch this one but looks like most of the points came from Zaytsev. Ravenna had a hard time finding the floor and passing wasn't great.
Milano 3-0 Cisterna Solid play from Milano all around. Ishikawa's attack was fire, with some well-placed shots. Jaeschke scored the game winning ace, also contributed 8 kills (with 0 errors!) and 2 blocks. Patry seems to be in an attacking slump lately... I don't think Porro's sets to him are that bad, but idk if it's a setter connection thing or just Patry needing to step up. Maar and Rinaldi both combined for some meh passing.

Perugia and even Lube are so far ahead.
Stay healthy and it's theirs

Sole was light's out in attack and Perugia's middles both put up a great block. During the match I was also please with Rychlicki getting it done from thh service line and attack. He got blocked 3 times and had 2 errors, but it didn't seem like it during the run of play. I felt it was one of Anderson's better matches in attack.
I wouldn't be surprised if Perugia brings home the treble this year.... or go empty-handed.

Russell on court for Piacenza … gets aced. Unfortunately he gets subbed off He hit a -0.428 (1 kill, 1 error, blocked 3 times) in that first set before getting subbed out.

Defalco is indeed one of the best outside hitters statistically in Plusliga right now, even though his team is only in the middle of the table. Benjamin Patch is doing pretty well in Germany, he scores well at ridiculously high efficiency at times. Of course, Berlin is ahead of any domestic competition by a long shot and they honestly don't even need Patch to be the best team in the country. Micah Christenson is probably doing the best right now, under his impulse he pushed Zenit Kazan back on top in Russia. Winning the CEV Cup is an obligation for them at this point, especially now with Modena out. I think the caveat with Patch is that he has not done anything against any decent competition. Berlin is deep and running through the Bundesliga. Their group matches have been pretty easy in the Champions League. They will be tested this week with 2 matches against ZSP in Russia.

The treatment of Russell and his wife from the end of last year by Piacenza's manager all through this year has been ....outrageous. Little wonder he hasn't found his game. It is appalling. If Piacenza really wants to become a player in A1 they have a ton of things to learn about handling professionals. Players (International) are a tight knit crew and they listen and talk. Aaron is a coach's son and keep his head down and is a "yes sir/no sir" kind of guy but a guy can only take so much.

Russell, Recine, and Rossard all playing at the pins in the first set against Padova This is absurd! They can't do this! They might be... too powerful!

Nishida 0/3 from the service line and struggling offensively in first set against Cisterna… Cisterna is also controlling the net well and dominating in transition to take set 1

Russell was a monster and even though the OH he played defense out of the 1 to hit the D. This lineup raised eyebrows. Both OPPO out due to injury

when Vibo can replicate the Japanese system (as best as they can) for Nishida… he can go off. Otherwise, he hasn’t found the consistency or out of system range yet
