For duck fans, did Ulmer make any adjustments after the third set or forth set? I am not familiar with the Oregon team and just wondering if there was any in-game coaching going on. He spun the dial so Powell and the other girl couldn’t serve at Borup going pass to hit down the line.

No amount of trolling or nitpicking can take away the high from that remarkable match. My sympathies to Oregon fans. That had to be some serous whiplash after the Ducks domination for almost two full sets. Especially that OWWWWWWWW end of the fifth. We as Oregon fans are on a similar low from that match... Regroup for Sunday. Go Ducks!!

We went to hear the Seattle Symphony last night (live music!!) and so I just watched the replay. I didn't know who won; my only clue was a cryptic email from my buddy Stephen that suggested it might have gone five.
I'll just highlight what I think are some important things we learned about the Huskies going forward:
- Is Emoni Bush our new OH2? Clearly she is learning fast. Not so many games ago she was hitting right into the block. Now, it's high hands when it makes sense to hit high hands. She had the majority of critical kills at the end of the fourth set. I'm not saying Endsley is out of a job, but it sure got more interesting (and we're gonna need Madi down the road anyway).
- Serve receive is as good as I can remember going back to 2019. Bays has really shored this up. I never thought I'd be writing this, but the Huskies' serve receive for the last three sets was better than the Ducks.
- It really helps team unity and morale when you get contributions from players like Sianna Houghton and Shannon Crenshaw, through serving and tough D.
- What can you say about Marin Grote? Simply our best hitter and usually money in key situations.
- EMP is now looking like an All-American setter, playing an excellent all-around game.
- The Huskies now know that they can withstand a fairly terrible early outing by Hoffman. When we went down 0-2, we had the Ducks right where we wanted them. I don't really believe that, and I'd rather watch sweeps. But in light of the fact that the last sweep by UW was against Fresno State, I think we'll just have to place our faith in the Heart Attack Huskies.

I thought we played well, but there's considerable work to do in the string section. Our first oboist, Clyde Phenstrom, was phenominal, IMO. But he's going to need more back up from the clarinet section. Don't get me started on tympani. Overall this was a good outing when you're taking on Mahler. But next week, Bach will really tell us a lot more."

I actually do write reviews of concerts (classical and jazz) for various groups of friends, and I wrote one about last night's concert. I tend to focus more on the music than the performance, but I actually did write that the Seattle Symphony's principal oboist, Mary Lynch, played ravishingly last night. (She really did!) I highly recommend getting tickets for Saturday night's performance, especially if you like Stravinsky.

Now what instrument does this Stravinsky fella play?
