Yeah, UNC basketball, UNC soccer, UNC field hockey and UNC lacrosse are a laughing stock! Pretty sure you could win 17 straight B1G championships in soccer, field hockey, or lacrosse and no one outside of your school would notice. And basketball? My point: We're on a women's volleyball forum and an Iowa fan is mocking UNC's athletic program, which I find...interesting (granted, they said they prefer UNC in the B1G, but just had to say it...).

I apologize for taking us slightly down the wrong trail. I should've said that I'm not convinced UNC or GT would great success in women's Volleyball in the B1G.

Wasn't mocking UNC at all. I'm more than an Iowa fan. Golf was just one stated example where UNC and GT excel in athletics. BB for UNC obviously is at the top of the list but am aware LAX and soccer teams also strong at UNC. Neither one is great now in FB although the Tar Heels have been pretty good lately. UNC and GT (like Stanford and ND) both have storied athletic programs, are top notch academic institutions (like Stanford and ND), and would add two large new TV markets to the B1G. That was the main point I was trying to make of wishing all 4 were in the B1G and didn't intend to disparage either UNC or TECH. Ties to both and like 'em a lot.

Athlon is not the most reliable source. But, anything is possible, I guess. Not believing it myself due to the ACC's GOR which is lengthy and would require any exiting school to lose their TV rights and pay huge exit fees.

Who believes the Big 10 is letting FSU and Clemson into their research consortium?

Well if it is true then the B1G truly would be a national conference.

Who believes the Big 10 is letting FSU and Clemson into their research consortium? Yeah, not that I believe that report anyway, but if the B1G were going to take some ACC teams, wouldn't Miami be a billion times more attractive to them than FSU?

I don't think so. I guess Miami recently got that AAU status that doesn't actually matter. They're both good academic schools that would be around the median for the Big Ten. For football (what really matters), they both have great brands. Miami has more national championships with five to three. But Florida State's titles are more recent than all but one of Miami's, and even that one was over 20 years ago. Florida State won its most recent title in 2013. Anyway, I think both Florida State and Miami would prefer the SEC over the Big Ten, so I'm not sure the Big Ten gets to choose. And regardless, since both schools are in the ACC, they are likely to be locked down for another decade or so due to its interminable TV contract. Edit: I honestly don't know why any school in Florida would prefer the Big Ten over the SEC. 11 of the current 15 ACC members are in the Southeast, so the SEC is far preferable for geography and travel. Plus, the SEC is far better at football than the Big Ten and has been for some time.

I suspect the B10 is desperate to get a foothold in the south or it will be permanent second rate conference to the SEC in football. Academics or any other reason have nothing to do with it.

Plus, the SEC is far better at football than the Big Ten and has been for some time. Tallahassee has 5 direct flights and DC is the only one to a Big 10 destination. Having just read The Athletic article about travel logistics for the LA schools, I'm not sure that Miami and Ft. Lauderdale airports don't make them a much easier fit into the Big 10. I'd expect the Big 10 would prefer UNC but at this point who knows. Plus, I'm not sure Miami is a great fit in the SEC. Bringing South Florida Speed to the Midwest is a strategy. I'm not sure what they could do to succeed in the Big 10 in football. Miami baseball in the SEC? IDK, nothing special, but in the Big 10 they are a baseball power. Plus I think Miami still needs to sell tickets in most sports- the student body and alumni don't just fill everything all of the time. I expect that they would draw more fans on flights from Minneapolis and Columbus than they would Starkville and Fayetteville, for weather alone. As for the ACC being on lockdown, FSU is reported to have been shopping for an offer, which may mean that they think the found their way out. We'll see if that's true.

The Big Ten preferring North Carolina over Florida State and Miami would be very on brand for them. It's no wonder that they've gotten lapped by the SEC in football. Also, baseball doesn't matter. As for anyone thinking they can get out of the ACC early, I'll believe it when I see it.

Nobody want to talk about how bad of shape Disney is in financially and plenty of talk of Disney dumpling ESPN. Doesn’t sound very stable to me if I’m SEC. Anyone who refuses to accept that Disney is in financial trouble is living a lie
