I feel like you're being way too sensitive. I tell you that well founded is meant to be well funded - not just you, but the other folks arguing about what is meant by well founded. Then you get all weird about why didn't he just say well funded then. I respond it's a typo. Why get all huffy about a typo? And now you're going all in with the martyr act. It's not a put down post. It's more of a plea than anything. nope I'm not sensitive. not weird. I just confront dickwads that can't resist to go out of their way to be insulting people on VT that's all I'm not huffy about a typo. I didn't bring it up, I don't care about it. I didn't insult the poster for making a typo. You are the one that chimed in to make a prick insulting comment. yes, it is a put down post. just like saying 'you are sensitive' lol, another huffy 'i'm superior' put down post. lol, whatever floats one's boat I don't consider anything I said to be insulting. I'm not throwing around names like prick and dickwad. Now, mind you, unlike you I don't really care. Your opinion of me is not all that important to me. I just think a little common sense could be used to figure out what was meant by well founded, instead of going on and on about what in the world was meant by it. I do not think of myself as superior to you. If that's how you perceive me, I'm okay with that, but that's not how I think of you.

I've been conditioned, a la Pavlov, to think new posts in this thread means more schools are switching conferences... alas, tis but a pissing contest

yes, it is dead, not because it was not well founded. it was had a strong foundation, was well-establish, made up of the best OVERALL athletic programs, and they did work well together and then a series of ......unfortunate events as it were I mean if it's all about TV / media deals, that's the serendipity somewhat of decisions at moments in time that ended up to have enormous consequences And that's fair. Things don't stay the same forever. It's hard to believe several years ago the Pac-12 would fall apart so spectacularly; but, I contend that a purely west coast conference probably was always at risk. We joke about anti-west coast bias in sports a lot. I think that extends to how tight west coast teams ultimately are.

This doesn't directly affect volleyball, but it's still notable. Army will be joining the AAC as a football-only member after the departure of SMU to the ACC.

Honestly, AAC to ACC isn't much of a change. At least, from a spelling perspective.

Notre Dame extends TV contract with NBC through 2029
"Notre Dame is expected to receive around $50 million per year from NBC, in addition to the $17 million it receives from the ACC. Notre Dame’s total compensation is slightly less than what members of the Big Ten would receive. NBC has held the rights to Notre Dame football since 1991."
This dovetails with the B1G's media deal which runs through the end of the 2029-30 athletic year.
It seems like that would give ND flexibility to decide to merge with the B1G in 2030 or remain independent if they can get a comparable deal from NBC.

Or make a football scheduling alliance with the B1G and join the Big East in other sports.

Unless they can get out of their agreement with the ACC, Notre Dame isn't joining the B1G in 2030.

Earlier in the thread, some ppl were suggesting that Notre Dame would leave the ACC to join the B1G in the near future.
Could they join the B1G for football only, with the other sports joining in 2023 (or whenever the ACC agreement ends)?
If the B1G offered enough, they could buy their way out of the ACC contract. There would only be a few years left and I doubt it would involve that much money since it's for all the sports except football. Or they could negotiate a short contract w NBC that ends in 2023 (or whenever the ACC contract ends), then go to the B1G. I'm sure the B1G would hold a spot open for them.
ETA: I think they'll remain independent in football as long as possible. But this contract does give them flexibility IMO. It may also give them more leverage with NBC.

Their agreement with the ACC states if they join a conference before 2036 it must be the ACC. As long as that's in place, it isn't happening. Notre Dame values its independence for a lot of reasons and those reasons are enough for them to leave TV money on the table.

For some reason, I thought it was 2033. I agree that buying out six years would probably be too costly.
Even with this new NBC contract, they're already leaving a few million on the table. But that's peanuts if this keeps their donors happy. I think that their donors value independence. That can always change, esp if the $$ difference between joining a conference and remaining independent is large enough. But as long as they get good viewership numbers, a large difference is unlikely IMO.

In addition to the contractual issues, I still have not seen any evidence that Notre Dame has any interest in joining the Big Ten.
