Looks like both Sac State and Grand Canyon making a play to get into PAC-12, and Texas State turned down MWC-maybe waiting for PAC offer, or just want to stay put in the Sun Belt. PAC-12 today said they are holding before adding other teams. I think Texas State to the PAC is over. The AD put out a statement a couple of days ago stating that TSU will remain in the Sun Belt for now. Yeah…I think TSU is hoping for a AAC invite….which would happen if Memphis was to leave. I believe Memphis and the rest of the AAC had sign an memorandum to stay put so I think there is really not much teams to pluck from except from the FCS level.

Losing Gonzaga from the WCC is a bummer from a basketball standpoint. But on their current volleyball trajectory (worst in conference), it isn't going to be a loss to the WCC. GCU and Seattle are coming to the WCC next fall, if GCU doesn't get cold feet and bolt... From a volleyball standpoint, GCU is a good trade for Gonzaga. Im just wondering why Gonzaga vb has been fairly bad for like a decade.. Niche school on the outskirts of the conference/country. Perhaps the resources into women’s sports could be questioned as well?

That's actually a problem for the Pac-2 because their waiver won't cover the entire transition period for an FCS school. It would be funny if they have no choice but to take NMSU, but in reality, they can probably convince some CUSA school (maybe Sam Houston State) to come if they strike out on the AAC.

The priorities seem to be: men's basketball >>>>> baseball and women's basketball >>> everything else.

Per Brett McMurphy, the Mountain West and Hawaii are in discussions for Hawaii to become a full member. I figured that this would be one of their options if they had a hard time finding someone else. Travel is a concern, but I also think this is better than adding NMSU for no reason. It gets the Mountain West to the minimum eight full members, which buys them time to explore other expansion options and makes it less likely that they'll make a panic addition. They'll have to offer Hawaii a sweetheart deal, then.
Otherwise, why wouldn't they have joined as a full member already, years ago? They like the Big West and what it offers in non-football sports.

Because the Mountain West didn't want or need them in all sports before. That has changed. But yes, Hawaii will get something out of it.

Even if you're right about the first part, I think they genuinely like their spot in the Big West for non-football sports, and for those sports it makes a lot of sense.
It's going to cost MWC dearly to lure them into sending their non-football teams to places like New Mexico.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Again, a lot of my friends went to NMSU. I'm not totally opposed to them. But they just aren't valuable. So even though I'm not really against them from a personal standpoint (it's not like how annoyed I was when the Big 12 added a certain school), it's hard to make a good case for them when they're second in their small state and second in their small market without much success historically in football. As for New Mexico, Lobos fans are well aware that the football team isn't very good. But they're already in the Mountain West, so it's different. Northwestern and Vanderbilt wouldn't have a prayer of getting in their current conferences if they hadn't already been there forever. The bar for a new member is different. And I stand by the entitlement statement, at least from what I've seen online. It's like they should be in simply because they're in New Mexico.

It will cost something. I don't think the Big West is really that much better. Men's basketball is definitely worse. And it's a lot of travel either way. My guess is that they'll get a larger share of the exit fees and/or a reduction on the amount they have to pay in travel subsidies. Plus a full share going forward.

Sending Wyoming volleyball team on a plane to Hawaii for 3-5 sets of volleyball, then turn around and come home ... is right up there in asininity with Cal being in the ACC.

Lol, when do you think the Mountain West started? The point is the same--the standard is different for new members regardless of conference. It's pretty hard to kick a member out. It happened to Temple in the old Big East once, but that's about it. Much easier to just not admit someone.

Why do you think I put 1999?
