Not only is Ikenaga a Freshman, but she is also getting use to a new backrow position. Throughout High School and Club ball, she always played Middle Back. Now she is playing Back Left. She has to get use to the angle of the ball coming at her now. She had to learn this in the last 2 months or so. Because of this, I think she is doing quite well. I want to see how much she improves next year from this year, before being critical of her.

Hawaii has such a tradition of winning that it’s such a let down to see your team not live up to par. Watching the other conferences, you just can’t help but wish we were more aggressive rather than being shanking and dinking queens.

I was really interested to see what would happen in this match. CSUN is kind of the Hawaii this season. Hawaii had back to back matches against Cal Poly and UCSB in 2019. CSUN had to face UCSB after their loss and then Hawaii after their loss. Wasn't sure if Hawaii would come out strong/angry about the loss to UCSB or if they would still be flat. And again, this match showed the inconsistency of Hawaii. 2 sets won by a 10 points differential, 1 lost set, and 1 very close set that was ultimately lost by CSUN opposed to being won by Hawaii. CSUN is in the bottom half of the conference, but have had sparks of good plays. They've taken sets off the middle of the conference teams such as UCI and have a win against #5 Bakersfield.
It will be very interesting to see how the Hawaii coaches approach practice next week. The biggest thing I noticed was the set selection at the beginning of the match. They CSUN blockers were loading up on the left side, especially in set 2. It was until mid way through the set that Lang decided to go to Leoniak in the right back and she didn't have any blockers up. While she hit very well, I'm still only going to be cautiously optimistic about her on the right. She did start against Bakersfield and only hit .179 for the 3 sets. But hopefully, a stronger presence on the right can open up things a little more for the left side hitters. BVS especially can make plays if she can get little more separation in the opposing team's block.

This is too dumb to bother with and players like Okino, Ross or Burns never played beach.. Sky was half the player she is now as an underclassmen and many more. And yet you bothered haha. Okino, Ross, Burns, and Williams!? Hold my drink hahahaha. Also you do realize that Robyn has yet to graduate a 4 year player that SHE recruited as a freshmen since she’s taken over…? If Texas is your comparison I would really take a closer look. Yes they recruit amazingly but I regularly see the Texas threads disparage their current setter who is one of the winningest setters in their program and I’ve seen mention, which i agree with, that Brionne Butler hasn’t shown a tremendous amount of growth despite being one of the best players in her position the past 4 years. However there are plenty of Hawaii and Texas players that have improved under the tutelage of their current respective coaches. However only one of those coaches has the years of experience with honing their craft of player development. Could be worse, just ask Long Beach State

But I agree the longer a team can gel with, the better they should be.

It’s kill or die. Yet, I feel the longer Hawaii grows as a team, they’ll get better. Growing pains 😩

Has anyone else noticed how much serves Hawaii keeps shanking from their opponents lately? I just feel like Hawaii’s recieving is so sloppy. It's one of the 3 weaknesses of this team: weak serving, porous blocking, and serve receive....
