Just tuning in, what happened -- Orzol couldn't get it by Cleveland's block and Cevita injured/out for Wisky? Multiple players had not great days for UW, Purdue pushed them with their serve early, and while Wisconsin fought back, the errors outlasted their fight-back. Civita hurt a foot/ankle early (though UW serve receive was struggling even before she went out.) I felt really bad for Civita. I don’t follow Wisconsin at all and saw her huge brace on her leg. She went for a ball and just cried in pain. I was glad that she could walk off the court. I hope she gets better.

Ooooofff…. The badgers looked tired today. This was a tough four match stretch for them and it finally caught up with the team.
Barnes and Demps were bright spots, Barnes especially… surprised we didn’t see Jardine for Orzol at some point. Robinson has been off since her move to the middle, and her ability to play those off block/fast twitch balls on defense seems a step slow and costs a few points a match. Doesn’t matter much in a blow out, but in close sets it can and has.
Purdue is a really good team, but it’s not like they were lighting it up on their side of the net. Badgers just dug holes and couldn’t get out of them. Was bound to happen after all of the late set blown leads recently. Play with fire long enough, and you’ll end up getting burned. On the road at 11am central against a top 10/15 opponent is a recipe that works with.

Civita is playing without an ACL: tore it but has decided to try and play with brace for rest of year : postponing surgery till season over! Hope she didnt do any serious damage to that knee today!!?🙏🏻🙏🏻

Her history is that she has had THREE ACL surgeries in the past, and maybe a little more than a month ago (the speculation is) the graft from the most recent one "failed", such that she is playing without anything serving the role of an ACL; hence the brace to prove support to the rest of the knee. From what I and others could see on the sidelines today, they were paying much more attention to her foot or ankle. So more likely than not, generally unrelated to her knee and brace.

Knocking Nebraska out of top spot in Big and then now handling complacency and start time: also losing Cevita is an issue: that scream in pain can effect your tram!!

Purdue is a really good team, but it’s not like they were lighting it up on their side of the net. In sets 1, 2 and 4, Purdue hit almost .300. Pretty close to "lighting it up," if you ask me.

I feel so sorry for her. 3 ACL surgeries and will most likely need a 4th one… My mom went through one surgery and that was enough. She’s a warrior.

Wisconsin with zero service aces today. First time all season that has happened. Unless I missed one, first time since Sept of 2015.

That’s fair. I was looking at full match stats afterwards and saw UW was outhit by .022 and figured it was a bigger margin than that given their offensive struggles. But yea, Purdue did attack well in those three sets.

Just speculation on my part, but there's a good chance there won't be a 4th one. You can live life without an ACL, you just can't play VB etc.

I wanted to ask Wisconsin fans a question: I’m not sure if it’s an every kill thing, but does number 22 Orzol (SP?) always make a “noise” when she goes for a kill? I could only hear it in set 4 and didn’t hear it at all before that. I think that it’s kind of cool. Like in karate or tae kwon do. You do it to scare the opponent pretty much.

My season ticket is 7th row roughly straight up from where the UW head coach is sitting/standing. That is, off the left side pin for the UW attack. I've never heard a thing.

Well, that was not the news I wanted to wake up to. Congrats to Purdue on the win. I hope the Badgers can bounce back and that Civita will be able to play again.

I play tennis and sometimes you grunt involuntarily. yes, often people will exaggerate it to try to distract your opponent but the reason is that you're putting all of your force into your swing and the breath is literally forced out of your body. There are certainly many volleyball players who grunt when they hit as hard as they can, and Orzol def hits hard a lot.
