I missed where they carried an actual sledgehammer on to the court. Dumb graphic regardless of the result, if Wisconsin came out with it, I would say the same thing. Have you missed Purdue’s whole history with the sledgehammer as a symbol of their university?

And Dana, your slide is played out.... it's been figured out. How about a back 1, a 1 1/2 front A, or a push 1... even a 3-1... you need to have something else in your arsenal. And for gods sake! Hit a freaking overpass tied at 26-26 in!!!!!! yeah, that overpass is gonna haunt her for a while.

I could be wrong but Dodge might have been the last 4 year recruited DS the Badgers have had since Angie Sanger in the late 90s/early 00s. If she wasn't the last, there weren't many in between who were on the roster for 4 years. Recruited DSs at UW almost always quit playing or medically retire. Are you differentiating between DS and libero? Anne-Marie Hickey. And from the same team, KT Kvas, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, differentiating liberos from DSs (so no Jocelyn Wack either). Kvas is another one.

Dana is the *current* Big Ten player of the week, having gone for 40 kills and only 3 errors on 69 swings. a .536 hitting percentage with her "played out" slide that everyone stops. 40 kills. On only 69 swings. 3 errors. SMH...

To have her slide figured out she'd be hitting below 400. She hits OOS middle balls. And FYI, she hits three different back slides. It's just tough to run many of those when the passing has been as challenged as it's been. Next.

I just watched the re-play... Wow, Rettke was a train wreck! Two matches in a row she has not played well. Sheffield take note: DEMPS MUST BE IN YOUR SYSTEM AT ALL TIMES! Stop having her come off the bench to play savior. Wish Sheff would of gave Smrek another shot. Last, but not least, Barnes you are the sh$*... wow... amazing. I'm calling for Orzol and Demps at the pins, Dana and Anna in middle and Robinson on the Right. Loberg needs to take several seats! Loberg led the team in kills today lol

Her game is spotty at times.

Not bitter, and I'm a Basger fan, I give you passing miscues of late, but she needs to be more dynamic if we're to compete for Natty. Texas will be salivating on that slide play.

My post was in response to the idea that Dana's slide is "played out". Quite obviously, missing on the overpass in the 4th set was indeed unfortunate. Darn humans, being human at the worst time!

Just now with the time to come back to this. Right now the only 'home grown' DS on the roster is Anna MacDonald (and Izzy Ashburn, who's really more a setter, but has indeed been "developed" into a competent DS). They have had two who had to 'retire' for medical reasons since the 2019 season - Riley Bell and Emma Whitehead; not saying either would have cracked this lineup, but it is certainly a factor. Going back to that 2019 team, ME Dodge was 'home grown' And nothing ever came out of Bell or Emma either. Dodd was mostly a serving specialist her first season and then ignored largely after that. Besides ME, Amber was the last one developed by the badgers and not either poached or brought in as a grad student that Wis has actually developed. Either they cannot recruit DS'es or don't know what to do with unfinished kids once they get on campus.

Badgers have had some bad luck vis a vis injuries. Bell had a long history of injuries that started before she joined the badgers, but after she committed. Dodd tore her ACL, but she played a few matches as I remember, including one against Purdue. She was in the running as a backrow player. It just didn't work out. I don't know what Whitehead's injury history was before she joined, but she had to retire medically before she even had a chance. Dodge was supposed to be the heir apparent to Morey and did well until she also injured her knee (first year? I can't remember). Bates had to step in eventually (homegrown!!). Dodge struggled a long time after that injury. AMac had a congenital forearm problem that kept causing injuries (and surgeries) at NCAA level that may have been ignored in HS and club. She had to retire.
Morey was someone Sheffield recruited to go to Dayton, who transferred to UW when he was hired as coach in Madison. Is she not a homegrown player? What is the definition of that? Is Reed not homegrown simply because she started (rarely) for UNC in her freshman year that won't count against her future eligibility? Is Akana at Neb not homegrown because she changed her commitment after the coaching change at USC?
Saige Damrow will be coming to Madison as a top recruit. Meanwhile, the transfer portal has changed everything. Clark, and now Barnes have made leaps and bounds since coming to Madison. I think it's a lot of worry about little to nothing.

Grace Cleveland is The Truth. Saw her play in Las Vegas earlier this season and that's the label that came to mind.
