FWIW: I thought for a minute about who might be a good "counter-example" to all the attention - good and bad - Lexi gets. Being a Badger fan, my mind went to Grace Loberg. So, I looked at career numbers. As I said, offered FWIW: Sun - 1075 kills, 3.32 per set, 2868 total swings, .231 hitting percent, 190 total blocks, 3.10 total points per set Loberg - 1069 kills, 2.69 per set, 3001 total swings, .232 hitting percent, 165 total blocks, 3.01 total points per set Not much difference in the these numbers Yeah, that's my point. I think it was interesting how much people "fret" about Lexi and whether she's in the lineup or out, how well or poorly she is playing, etc., in contrast to how much one hears about Loberg, for example (I'm sure there are other such "counter-examples", as I termed it, maybe better ones). Draw whatever 'conclusion' you may want. I thought to make the comparison, and then thought the numbers, and the small differences in the number I found were interesting.

Her numbers at Texas would have improved those career totals.

I think Nebraska and its fans would certainly take her career average of .232 this season
She's at .152 right now for the year (Batenhorst is even worse)

This is true, but one can certainly make the argument that people are doubting her now. She has gained a reputation, whether it's fair and accurate or not, of being soft. I don't know if that's fair or not. IS she practicing like she's worried about breaking a nail? IS she soft? Seems like Cook has that impression of her. Regardless, I do agree it's in bad taste to say what he said about her in public. I personally think she's a great player. Highly skilled. I'd love to see her go off! I'd love to see her play with a chip on her shoulder. It would be a great way to close out her career. Go off Lexi!! I think it’s terrible for the coach to make this comment. What’s the point? I don’t understand at all. Cook is trying to bully Lexi Sun Or it's possible that after 4 years Cook knows what to say that could be a motivator for Sun. I'm fairly certain it's nothing he didn't or wouldn't say to her face.

I suspect the general consensus among coaches is that it's a statement you would say to her face, but not to the media.

I don't doubt for one second that he has said that to her face. I'm sure he has said worse to her face. And if after 4 years of coaching her, this is what he decided is proper motivation, then I'd say he hasn't been very successful in motivating her. I'm a believer in the "Praise in public/Reprimand in private" approach. It's not very classy the other way around. Just my opinion.

I think we may be making a bigger deal out of a comment made in passing ( either passive aggressively, out of frustration, or dry sense of humor) than maybe needs to be. I haven't seen a lot of Cook press conferences so I'm not sure if this is the norm for him but Sun has contributed a lot over the past four years so I'm not sure if I'm going to stress over it.

If he was truly that petty there's a good chance he would have stayed with Batenhorst. Again, all speculation on all of our parts.

This benching and unbenching and his snarky remarks about her not playing hard and airing dirty laundry does not pass the smell test. Sun has been a part of the recent success of Nebraska and she did not suddenly forget how to play. Boring
