Loberg kills it…. At some point Sheffield needs to drop his blind allegiance to her. She kills the vibe, Demps/Orzol at OH, Robinson at RS and Dana and Anna in middle Sydney was off tonight…. Dana was atrocious Loberg was better than orzol or Demps given the boxscore

Wowwwwwe just getting home…. was not expecting to see that at all! Gonna have to read the thread now. Gophers control their own fate now. A pet peeve of mine, brought to me by Bob Costas: The Gophers do not "control their own fate". They do control how their season ends up. But "fate" cannot be controlled. That's the very definition of the word. If you believe in such a thing as "fate", then fate is gonna happen, no matter what. It is out of anyone and everyone's control. That's what the word means. Llikewise "destiny".

1. Right now Bush IS the best setter in the B1G, but a LOT of credit has to go to Purdue's first contacts. Even so, the Purdue hit % was nothing to herald under .200 2. Inconsistent passing by WI made it much easier for Purdue to put up a ferocious block. Beyond the actual blocks your pin hitters try to widen their range leading to attack errors. 3. Orzol's early season success is being countered by the better blocking teams and it has not been as easy to drive through and get rattle kills. Too many attacks are coming right back. She was having more success in Ro1 on the right. 4. I haven't watched enough since NEB win to know why the Hilley - Rettke connection is less effective, but without reliable back slide kills WI is disadvantaged 5. The B1G is an amazing conference. Credit where it is due and tonight Purdue banked a lot of credit.
Wisconsin's reaction to Purdue reminded me of Minnesota's in Madison. They were stressed and not coping well and let the Badger offense run wild. This match was quite different with less dynamic offenses but a similar inability of the loser to gain any traction. If the current trajectory of these two teams continue Purdue may contend for a top seed and Wisconsin settling for a 2 seed. Lots more tough matches for all of us.

Apparently, Purdue are the Spoilermakers in more than just football. Except, and this applies to Wisconsin in football too, they aren't in the weak division in volleyball, so the next challenge is another top 10 team on the road!

Wonder whats up with Rettke yikes hitting .045 Wisconsin isn't going to win many matches if she performs that way. She's been off lately. Wisconsin still has the goods but yikes dropping this one at home stings for them. Smrek led the team in hitting percentage tonight.
Bush for Purdue is easily the most underrated setter in the country she does her job and so well.

Dana was atrocious Why are Badger fans always dogging on Loberg? I wish she'd ride the pines when Nebraska goes to Madison because she always kills us. Looking at the stats from this match - Grace had 4 errors - with 40 attacks. Rettke had 5 on 22 attempts. Robinson only 3 error but on only 20 swings. Orzol 6 on only 24 attacks. Demps 5 on 22 swings. Even Hilley had 3 errors on only 8 attacks. Since Loberg had 12 kills with .200 hitting percentage, it seems criticism of her for this match is perhaps misplaced.

I'm not "bragging", I'm saying the answer to "What's up with Rettke" is, generally, "nothing". .500 and above in 4 of her last 8, and two of those were Ohio State and Penn State. To the extent that there is something up in those last four, it is Civita is missing.

Just goes to show you that at the end of the day, you need your OH's to produce. Unless you have the world's greatest setter that can fling the ball around the court regardless of the passing, the quality of the production of the LS's is what is going to determine most matches.
