The people who lost loved ones in armed service aren't the only people who get to have opinions about the flag or the country and they need to stop pretending that their opinions mean more than other people's. I imagine if you've seen your country build itself on centuries of systemic injustice, fail to acknowledge it, continue to marginalize people of color, ignore systemic poverty that disproportionately affects you, continue to imprison generations of you, and pretend away that history because that racism is just a bit more subtle now than it was 60 years ago, you might have some kind of feeling that would make you want to tell Lee Greenwood to go drink bleach. So wrap yourself in a star-spangled Tommy Hilfiger shirt if you want to, but you don't get to say boo to someone who wants to make the smallest, politest form of protest. Give it a rest. It’s people like you that have made Volley Talk so toxic and a shadow of its former self. People are sick and tired of this drivel. The most overused words in the English language right now are ‘racist’ and ‘systemic’.It’s been very effective however in getting people to shut up and not share their opinion,Wasn’t that your goal? When they walk by a veteran who is homeless and sleeping in his own urine, are they moved to tears? When they see a guy in a wheelchair without his limbs, because he stepped on the land-mine while serving his country, are they moved to tears? But because some random guy yelled out of the stands during the national anthem,we are profusely blubbering apologies?? What a bunch of woke nitwits. And congratulations again for being the reason that Volley Talk keeps going down the tubes. PS-Isn’t Tommy Hilfiger so 90s? Political statements are toxic. It's fair game, I think, to ask what happened. Beyond that, opining as to who is right, who is wrong . . . I hope the moderators put an end to such discussions on this board. god forbid there be actual discussion on topics which are way more relevant than some dumb sport. By all means, let's censure discussion. That sounds real American. Mod forbid. You have a million other venues to discuss politics to your heart's content or discontent, as the case may. |

People who love to do nothing more than wave a bloody flag all around and scream how they are patriots have done their best to politicize this. It is a human rights issue, nothing more, nothing less. If you were not so worried about defending a baseless position, you and others would have the ability to see that. But you lack that ability and that is on you alone. After Kobe died, I saw a lot of my friends posting a helicopter crash which happened in 2005 and killed several soldiers. The hilarious part, which I pointed out to them, was that none of them could have been bothered to serve when they were 18 yet here they are now at 40 screaming about how the poor military doesn't get any respect. None of them would respond either when I pointed this fact out or the fact that I did. Yet I have no issue with kneeling. I wonder how many of you getting high blood pressure over something which has no affect on your life actually bothered to join and do the things I had to do? |

You know what! Not sll Veteran's are saints! I am tired of the blind allegiance given to someone just because they served in the military. There are racist veterans and those who wear there service on their sleeves. I wanted to join the military but was told because i was gay i wasn't good enough. My dad, a straight man, was proud of his service but respects the right of otbers to take a knee during yhe national anthem. That's what he fought for. People who decry racism are mostly racist or they wouldn't be so offended
