Probably not season ticket holders, just bought tickets for this match. The loudest guy who said “sit down you trash” sits near me and is definitely a season ticket holder. Please help Husker Athletics identify this person. Thank you.

John Cook: "There are other ways to express people's opinions, but not right at the Star Spangled Banner and introductions.” Hmm. Does that not apply to athletes who choose to defy tradition of the golden age of American democracy by standing in respect for the banner of freedom that we all enjoy? So Nebraska should be ashamed of a fan or three who react to the disrespect of their country because we are the host, but Maryland should not be ashamed of three players who choose to rebel against tradition because they are guests and guests can do whatever they want? One might argue that since this is a free country that those girls had the right to kneel, and I reluctantly agree. On the same premise then the hecklers or counter protestors, or whatever you wish to call them, have the same freedom to express themselves. However by the way the game of life is being played today, it seems that freedom of expression and right to respect only belongs to the Woke folk. I understand that these athletes are just kids. 10 years from now they may rue the fact they took a knee. Perhaps this could be one of those situations where both parties are in error - and those who are older and more mature should have taken the higher road and suppressed their disdain. Perhaps if we just ignore the disrespectful, their antics will be discontinued. These people did not hurl golf balls onto the court or anything else that could be construed as physically dangerous. If these people lost season tickets because of this incident, I think some other people will be upset. Ironically it doesn't seem that harassing the players (especially the servers when close to the audience) is considered to be in poor taste by many student bodies. If we're going to emphasize respect, perhaps it should be universally applied.

If the chief chowderhead is going to come back as Lutherville, he could at least spell it Luthorville - like Lex Luthor.

The banner of freedom would most certainly include a persons right to “freely” and peacefully kneel during the national anthem. I’d argue it’s decidedly un patriotic to suggest otherwise. Of the freedoms are men and women in uniform fight for, this is one of them, like it or not.

In that case they should be banning the entire student section who yells things like “Fat ass,” “stupid,” and other delightful phrases at servers when they are behind them. I mean if you’re going to do it, do it right.

Guys, please stop responding to the morons pretending not to know why people kneel. It's obvious they don't pay attention to the news or read history books and even more obvious that they don't care to understand. Just let them keep living their blissfully ignorant lives still believing that America is the greatest country in the world and there is absolutely no reason to protest any part of its culture. Mind you, this is coming from the people who probably have wives that had to go back to work 2 weeks after giving birth, or the ones who get a total of 10 paid vacation days a year while working 70+ hours a week.

I think you're misunderstanding why people would take a knee during the anthem. I would love to explain why, but I get the feeling that you're the type of person that won't understand no matter how many times someone gives you an explanation. can you give us the readers digest version of "why" they are kneeling? i would like to see an article asking those that are kneeling why they are kneeling. that would give them a better platform to address their grievances. and why is people protesting against protestors wrong? i don't think one should be derogative to protestors--but the majority of protesting the last few years has led to rioting. if you say it hasn't, there is a lot of film footage out there to prove you wrong. you just have to acknowledge that it is happening. if you can "peacefully" protest, have at it, do it respectfully. if you want to protest the protests, do it respectfully. unfortunately, this society has turned to violence way to many times. i do not know what was said to the maryland players, i only have to see how the nebraska players reacted to know it was not good. If you can find film/footage of protesting leading to rioting, surely you can find explanations for why people have protested in this way in the last few years. It’s the same google.

It’s brutal. If we really care about young ladies confidence why do we put the student section right behind them?

I'm glad that you agree that people who say disparaging things should not be attending matches.
