Back and forth, Frohling eventually hits it off the block and it lands in front of the Pacific defense.
Pacific up 19-15, but San Diego has a little momentum and Pacific calls TO.

Benbow serves it wide on set point #3 for Pacific. That's the match 25-20 in the 4th and a 3-1 win for Pacific.
BYU has won the WCC no matter what happens in their last match at San Diego. They have the automatic bid to the NCAAs as well.
San Diego in a tough spot now with this loss. Pepperdine also lost to Pacific, but it was earlier in the year, and they just beat San Diego.

What a gross match by san Diego. I know they still have a match against BYU left, but does this affect USD's chances of getting into the tourney at all?

What a gross match by san Diego. I know they still have a match against BYU left, but does this affect USD's chances of getting into the tourney at all? It does hurt their chances…..with their current RPI, this loss and how their RPI will take a huge hit from opponent win % AND the loss, that won’t be good. That was also their 2nd loss to a team worse that 150 in the RPI. One top 25 win, one 26-50 RPI win. They will be compared to other bubble teams that have more top 50 wins and don’t have as many “bad” losses. |
