Pacific won't finishing with a winning record overall, but at 10-7, they're guaranteed to have a winning conference record for the first time since 2017.

USD is just not very good this year. They’ve been living on the edge all season with poor passing, questions at setter, and, until recently, a revolving door at middle blocker. With no setter in the pipeline and what may be a new cast of characters at libero/ds the future is muddy. They’re good, just not very good, and far from great. Here’s hoping some of these other teams build up a stronger non-con resume so a loss like this doesn’t sting too much.

Here comes Terçariol lol, USD pulling the classic "pull your setter" move...but hey, it's worked for them this year - Terçariol runs a slower offence than Madill, maybe it'll throw Pacific off as it has with other USD opponents when they've flip flopped their setters. Personally, I believe that rotating between a setter with faster sets and one with slower sets is more likely to throw off your OWN hitters than the opponents... San Diego has the firepower this season. If only they had an elite setter to get the ball to them. Pries did not take any swings today, which suggests she is not healthy... USD definitely plays much better with Pries, Lukes and Frohling at the pins.

San Diego has the firepower this season. If only they had an elite setter to get the ball to them. Pries did not take any swings today, which suggests she is not healthy... USD definitely plays much better with Pries, Lukes and Frohling at the pins. I do think it's succeeded in throwing opponents in the past, but I agree that it can also throw off their own hitters. I really like Madill as the primary setter I just don't think she's gotten the minutes she's deserved this season & so the connections aren't as good as they could've been...I think USD could be rolling right now if they'd ran with her from the start of the season, just a coaching mistake IMO. But even if both Terçariol and Madill stay, I think it's a possibility that USD will bring in a new setter next year & try to spice it up...both existing setters will be upper year students next year and they'll want to feed the pipeline. But I don't think either setter was the problem today, I think the serve/pass game killed them. Both Benbow and Tastad had an off day (which is dangerous when you have no DS sub) and serve receive was inconsistent. We've seen too many sloppy serving games for USD recently...serving error numbers consistently high with a lower number of aces than the other team...which is especially bad when the other team serves well & serve receive is poor. I thought we would see Pries today at the pin with Wilson only hitting .143, maybe you're right and her injury is still lingering. She did have a good game her first game back vs. LMU but struggled against Pepperdine and we haven't seen her since Wilson entered the match for her vs. SMC. She's definitely a huge difference maker when she's full strength...I also really like Wilson (she's gonna be great in a few years) and think she's a great supporting player who should definitely be used if they need her (ie. Pries is struggling), but for now Pries deserves the start.

^ I say no DS sub even though USD has Jaworowski. Not sure how she's performed in practice but she's only seen the floor as a serving specialist so far this year, so they have no DS sub with significant play time.
