No. 12 Huskies Host No. 21 Cougars On Senior Day


This will be senior night for UW honoring Samantha Drechsel, Lauren Sanders and Emma Calle. 

 If the Huskies can defeat both Colorado and Washington State, they will win at least a share of the Pac-12 title, which would be UW's second of the calendar year, and seventh in program history. UCLA, also at 15-3, is aiming for its own share with two wins of its own, while the Cougars at 13-5 are still in the hunt if they go 2-0 and UW and UCLA slip up.

The Cougars had a rough go of it in Salt Lake this afternoon. Outhit by Utah .240 to .111, outdug 65-49, only generating 21 assists vs. 49 for Utah, and generating only one ace while being swept. Ouch.

Hard to overstate just how much Timmer's injury has impacted the Cougs.

WARNNG: Pet Peeve Rant. I loathe how the media allows corporations to get free pub with stadium and arena naming rights. Okay, if Safeco or Key Bank decide to buy naming rights for a sports arena, great. Put your sign up. But the media should NOT call that stadium by the corporate brand name all the time - especially when it's a company that deliberately misspells a word (looking at you, Qwest).

And now, even VTers are falling victim?!?

The Apple Cup is the ####ing Apple Cup. It is not the "Apple Cup Boeing Series."

Maybe spend your money on building safe airplanes instead of buying off government regulators and naming sporting events.

This match would be so much better with Timmer playing. Last match WSU looked dreadful at times vs. Utah. Ung did not have a good match, and her replacement option isn't much better. Pukis set Ung twice as much as any other player, even of Tusa. That can't happen this match, or it will be an easy sweep by WA. But WA let a set and almost two, slip away vs. COL, and WSU can do the same if WA isn't focused.

Sanders: The native of Snohomish, Washington is second in Washington history and fifth in the history of the Pac-12 with 634 career blocks. Sanders has played more sets than any Husky ever, with 520 sets played and counting.

Drechsel: She is one of 14 First Team All-Americans in UW history and the first right side hitter to earn the honor since Sanja Tomasevic in 2005. One of the hardest and most accurate hitters in the NCAA, Samantha ranks seventh in school history with 1,436 kills and has added 107 aces, more than 300 blocks and 600 digs.
