Wow. What a fun match (if you’re a Gopher fan).
Minnesota has now won 3 of the last 4 against Stanford, the unfortunate exception being the 2019 semifinals when Kathryn Plummer was hitting impossible angles on broken plays against them. I realize this isn’t as good a Stanford team as we’re accustomed to, but it’s really nice to turn the tables and send them packing in the tournament this time.
Really impressed with the defensive effort and passing tonight. I feel like that was the most complete match the Gophers have played this year. Here’s hoping they can keep it up against Baylor.

Only 5 digs each for Samedy and Shaffmaster. Tactical error by Stanford to not hit to right back more often. Only 5 for Samedy is probably a season low.

I prattled on last week about a purported difference in the set% between Shaff-Wenaas and Shaff-Samedy. For most of the season Shaff's sets to the left pin have been consistently mediocre. The ability of both Miyabe and Wenaas to terminate depends on their having an angle. Both of them attack when they can and both tip or roll their shot when an attack is low percentage.
I maintain that Wenaas' hit% adjusted for quality set location would be dramatically higher. This weekend is a case in point. Shaff's set locations and tempos have made dramatic improvement lately and the pins' hitting% reflects that.
We can quibble about whether Wenaas has to perform better to be considered elite.

Wow! "Plumettes?" What a creative description. Go to the head of the toilet. MN looking for revenge on that 2019 Plummettes team that beat them in the national semifinals. I recall calling that team Plumford after that match.

It just hit me…this is the last time I’ll see Samedy live. I’m going to go cry now. It's been hitting me since the Maryland match, when we weren't even sure we'd be hosting. It's been such a privilege to watch her amazing talent these past 5 years. I guess a road trip to Madison isn't out of the question, though the day off between games, makes it a little tougher for road fans.

I've got a place to stay (sister lives in Madison, and I'm from there), but the Thursday start turns it into a no-go for me this year... without thinking about it, I set up a Drs appt for that day.

I was pretty impressed with this win and still am, but wow what happened to the Pac 12? Only 2 teams left and one of them has to play Texas next and the other one is still playing and down 2 sets to 1.

The Gophers may have to stick with the sleeveless tank with the forearm sleeves..............

MN looking for revenge on that 2019 Plummettes team that beat them in the national semifinals. I recall calling that team Plumford after that match. She got just under half of Stanford’s kills (26 of 53). She did a bit less against the Badgers in the championship… “only” 44% of the team’s kills.

Stanford's defense was concerning all season, and sure enough. They let Minnesota hit .339 in this match.

Stanford's defense was concerning all season, and sure enough. They let Minnesota hit .339 in this match. "let?" I mean, Minnesota hasn't had a great offense this season (.237 team hitting percentage). They played well, but Stanford isn't a good defensive team.

Wenaas is just getting better and better. You can see her progression from last spring and early season this year to now. Amazing! Tonight's performance was FANtastic! My thought is the team, knowing CC is down and Miyabe braced, came together on a mission to battle for every point like they never have before. The fans were energetic from the start and continued through to the end. Such a great match and I can't find enough superlatives. Just finished watching the match! Man I loved watching Miyabe go all the way around. It wasn’t alway pretty much she works so hard, brace and all. Kilkely stepped in for CC and did well. And that darn Wenaas! She made chop suey out of that big Stanford block. I agree that she is getting better and better. She has a great coach who has led teams at the highest level and I’m sure being in the gym with Samedy helps her a ton too.

Well done Stanford ladies! Congrats to Minnesota!
Might sound like a sore loser but - It’ll be more interesting next season when all these 5th year seniors are gone and the parity in the sport is somehow, back. I thought some teams benefitted from having their best players given extra season.
